Im firmly of the belief that in the modern era social progress wont be undone; that theory looks like it might be tested.

You just wait until they say point break doesn't belong in the national registry.

And I'll gladly stop posting in here if it becomes annoying or too much. A lot of stuff is hitting close to home and it does make me pretty angry.

From what I gather, it's either a diversion or trial balloon.

Not for nothing, but I have friends cancelling travel plans over this stuff. And when I say plans, I mean like to Hawai'i. They just don't want to be at the whim of the next executive order.

Yates of Yates memo fame is no shrinking violet. Aggressive move. Depending on how long Sessions takes to get confirmed (or I guess, whether he gets confirmed and they have to start over) this could cause problems for his enforcement of the refugee EO. The initial stays were TROs meaning a more complete hearing with full briefing comes within 30 days or less in most instances. DOJ has been handling these arguments so far from what I saw; DHS/CBP do have their own in house counsel.

Why would they cancel Hawaii? Is trump going issue an EO that takes away their statehood?

My one co-worker had a humorous story from the weekend. She is Chinese. Has a green card and obviously works here. Her husband and two daughters are US citizens. They (her husband and her) were discussing at the dinner table how it's not a stretch to imagine Trump extending this sort of travel restriction on a whim. Let's say a country doesn't cooperate with his trade deals or something along those lines. And one of her daughters asked what that would mean, and they explained that if they were all traveling to visit their grandparents and while they were away Trump made the order to restrict those from China back into the country that her husband and the two girls would be allowed back, but mom would have to go back to China. The younger of the two says, "So if you're stuck in China, does that mean we don't have to go to Chinese lessons anymore? Because that sounds really great." And she said to her "But I'll be stuck away from you guys, doesn't that sound worse than having to go to Chinese lessons?" The daughter replied, "mommy... you have a cell phone. We can just call you." The priorities, and honesty over priorities of little kids crack me up.

Re Hawaii Not sure I follow the logic there either. That seems like the first true "panic" move i keep hearing about in this thread

I'm assuming his friends are not us citizens, right?

You still have pass through TSA. After seeing that video of Trump talking about people not looking the part, they're a little worried about what happens when people do look the part.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's an overreaction, too. But then I'm a well-off white guy in San Francisco. I'm practically not even in the same country anymore, and am not in a position where I have to consider Trump's lunacy being harmful to me in a specific way.
