What about hockey uniforms in general? Every Penguins player is supporting Bold Penguin, Highmark, and PPG Paints. And guess what, they're forced to.

But, I would suggest that only posting about LGBTQ jerseys or cakes or whatever hurts your cause. I want the same amount of passion over Hockey Fights Cancer jerseys.

Imagine telling my parents (and others from that generation) in 1970 that one day, the local class A baseball team would have a Grateful Dead night.

Source of the post I oppose all forms of compelled theme nights. That includes the Sports Matter Program, Hockey Fights Cancer, Military Appreciation, and whatever other jerseys they've come up with or may come up with.
Why?

Am I wrong to be a little concerned about showing the ship and naming the port from which it's leaving? OpSec fail? I wonder if the Russian Navy has submarines out...seriously.

Why?

I don't believe it's appropriate to compel another person to express support for a cause, unless they have voluntarily agreed to do so. The right to free speech includes the right not to speak.

I chooooooose........... NOT to speak!

But doesn't 'compel' and 'voluntarily' sort of cancel each other out there?

They can just find a team or league that doesn’t do such events, yes?

They could, yes. Employers are free to impose conditions, and employees can choose to reject them or accept them. I'm not saying that employers lack the ability. I'm saying it's a dick move.

For example, employers are within their rights to demand 100% in-person work and rescind any leeway granted in the last couple years for employees to work from home. That would be within an employer's rights. But I do believe that many of the posters here would call that a dick move.

I don’t understand, no one compelled anyone to do anything.

This story was that a player opted out of the demonstration.

It’s funny how if maybe you strip out enough actuality and squint really, really hard you can see some principal at stake. As opposed to just some guy being a dick.

My favorite part about this post is I'm 90% sure Shyster would consider it a dick move, but he words it just right to poke the bear and doesn't give his view point. I applaud it.

So it’s not really a freedom of speech thing, since no one’s rights were infringed, it’s a… I hate special uniforms thing?

Weird take, but okay.

No one was compelled to do anything, you may argue that some players “felt” compelled because they didn’t want to be criticized for refusing. So, now we’re just talking about freaking conformity.

Honestly, it took me a while to understand why people would say things like “conservatism is the new punk”. I just think it’s wildly hilarious that the conservative world found their inner subversive in response to society accepting homosexuality and diversity.
