Well, it says "average hourly", and minimum wage has gone up multiple times in that chart's range, right? I'm surprised at the claim that wages are outpacing inflation though...

I think the takeaway from that graph is two-fold.

1. The capitalist system is the best economic model (wages up and TVs/Cars cheaper and better).
2. Humans are flawed and corrupt regardless of what economic model they reside. And in this case, folks have been exploiting how the markets for healthcare and education work and are in the process of tanking the economy by burdening the population with healthcare and education debt.

Minimum wage hasn't gone above 7.25 in 13 years.

I posted a chart on a previous page, but the highest earners earned like... 300% more than the average worker. That number is almost 100% skewed by the highest earners.

Our company has a minimum $15/hr wage (I think it's actually $17 something) because our CEO learned that some generally-low-end employer like Wal Mart set their own min wage and wanted to ensure that he got higher caliber people than those that would choose to work at Wal Mart (or equivalent)...

Only around a quarter million people actually earn (federal) minimum wage. But over half of all workers are paid at hourly rates, and many categories of those people are paid using the federal minimum wage as a multiplier. Lots of people, like service industry professionals, are also paid below minimum wage and have pay grossed up; I'm not sure if they actually get counted in the reckoning or not.

It used to be a much larger chunk of the hourly workforce was paid federal minimum wage, but with that rate stagnating for so long it has been outstripped by states passing laws where their local minimum is like 2x the federal rate.
