Right, I think there needs to be oversight across the board to keep some things in check. Abortion is probably one of them - but fundamentally, I like the states dictating the rules where I live.
I mean, right now I'm very happy for my states rights given some of the removals for rights at the federal level.

I'm sure it will be left to the States once the GOP controls the House, the Senate, and the presidency.

Operationally though, are people upset that this ruling is really a pushback to states rights, or is it because there needs to be blanket control from the overall government.

The hate big government in me actually finds it OK that states dictate what they do for their constituents.
This isn't a States' rights thing though, that is just a farce to make people believe that the opinion is rooted in some sort of technicality.

I mean, we think that the state of MS should be allowed to determine whether abortion is legal, but NY can't make laws about concealed carry permits?
Well one is in the constitution and one isn't. Not saying another amendment isn't possible - but to me that's where the differentiator is.

This I think is the larger picture that sticks with me. The GOP is pretty aligned when it comes to getting stuff like this done. Only a matter of time.

This isn’t necessarily a shot at Biden, but he’s being used as the example here. It’s amazing that someone can spend their entire life in a profession and be absolutely garbage at it. I can’t imagine waking up each day and having to go to a job you know you are terrible at.

It's really no wonder so many Rs think Trump is the greatest POTUS of their lifetime. Thanks to him, Roe v Wade has finally been overturned, it's likely going to be illegal to ban "assault" weapons, etc. If the SC overturns the right for same sex marriages, that's pretty much the trifecta. I loathe the guy, but he accomplished what most R voters want and no other R could achieve.

Maybe @Shyster or other lawyers can help here, but does the same reasoning also erode rights to interracial marriage?

What a monumental achievement!
Following Senate passage late Thursday, the House passed the bipartisan bill that takes steps to restrict gun access for the youngest buyers, domestic violence offenders and others who could pose a risk to their communities. The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act also would fund school safety and mental health programs.

That's like 6 weeks, I wonder how many people don't even know they're pregnant yet at that point
Isn't that the point?
This is a self-reporting statistic kind of thing, but the majority of women seem to know sometime around weeks 5 and 7. Around a third of women are later than week 6.

I remember being told that I was irrational for my fears on women's right, reproductive rights, and my queer rights. Today (and really the overall direction of the court with the other rulings this week) has really hit hard.

I live in a state where I have many protections, but I am upset for the country and people who live in more conservative states. And continue to worry where we are headed.
I stand with obhave. :fist:

given that disarming the populace is a categorical imperative of any authoritarian regime its too bad i probably (hey @Faftorial ) wont be around to see how the gun fanatics cope with having their arms cache confiscated by the very people they thought would protect it

I don't think an individual's right to have control of their body is a states rights issue. I don't think any state has the right to tell you who you can be married to (consenting adults) and what the two (or more) can consent to in their own privacy.
These are basic human rights to control and protect your body. While not codified in the Constitution the same way a right to self defense apparently is (which its not), it is just as much a natural right of autonomy.
States can decide what taxes I pay for and where they go, and how to protect and exercise my rights. They should not be in business of of being depended on to grant basic human rights. That's a much larger issue that should be solved at the top of the pyramid.
