Seems like a blow to the separation of Church and State.

Wow
He also said that the police were there to respond within I think 3 minutes of the shooting.

I mean, again, that parkland school security guy was scapegoated that time, but here the whole police department just waited for the dude to get done massacring elementary school kids before intervening
They didn't intervene. The Border Patrol had to do it.

It's beyond past time now. If these religious extremists want to take over the government, then they need to pay the bill like the rest of us, probably moreso than others.

I'm sure shyster will be along soon enough to let us know what a wise decision this was.

Or more likely some absurd whattaboutism that is being consumed on whatever FedSoc / gun message board he frequents.

Maybe if religion paid back taxes, some of it could go to landlords so that my rent won't go up...let us pray.

Sure, let's abolish the police since this is a blanket incident obviously.

I honestly don’t have a major issue with that ruling. I could very well be missing something, but the families “buy into” public funding by paying public education-related taxes and as long as there isn’t a limit on which secular schools parents can send their kids to and receive funding (eg only Christian schools), it’s kind of a wash. Also apparently Maine used to be ok with tuition funding for secular schools up until 1981 when they amended the previous statute

I don’t agree with the ruling but I don’t think it’s egregious either

It mostly just doesn't make any sense to me.

So Maine has a program to help kids that live in areas that don't have high schools. Okay, great, what benefit is being denied to parents sending their kids to religious schools? Unless this thing doesn't allow the kid to go to a secular school? Then sure, I don't care.

Private schools shouldn't get any public funding. "School choice" and vouchers are on deck.

This is where this is eventually going, dismantling the US public education system. But, not sure how this ruling fits in, because this program ME has is designed to provide private school tuition to kids that live in a place where there is no public high school.

But previously, those were strictly for private schools, AIUI. This new ruling allows overtly religious schools to take advantage of the funding program.

I'll be honest, I'm glad I didn't grow up during the time of cameras everywhere, social media, etc.

I've done plenty of dumb things that didn't get passed around and archived for life.

Judging how you handle persecution on here (people disagreeing with you), teenage NAN would have had lots of issues doing puberty in the social media world.

They get a voucher to pay for private school (that meets certain accreditation standards). The ruling allows that voucher to be used to go to a secular school as long as it also meets those standards.

So in this sense the argument is that dodint pays property taxes to pay for schools. There's not enough secondary-ed kids in the county though to make staffing a school worthwhile, so each kid gets a voucher to go to the school of their choice. So in essence, dodint isn't just paying for my kids to go to school, he's now paying for my kids to get indoctrinated in whatever religion I choose.

If someone would be so kind as to paraphrase this for me. When they say 'religious schools', do they mean something like "St. Thomas Aquinas High School"? Or, like, the seminary?

Edit: Nvm, I didn't catch up enough with the thread before posting. Carry on.
