Politics And Current Events

Imagine, for half a second, if Trump was still in office and the party controls were flipped. I'd guess that everyone in here that is so pissed at Manchin and Sinema would be praising Romney/Cheney as heroes for standing up for 'what is right'. The effort to federalize elections would be and authoritarian power grab perpetuated by a wannabe dictator.
This state vs federal thing is such a baseless argument. When states do things we don't like, we like federal rules, when states do things we like, we don't like federal rules. This obviously applies to both sides. But no one is a pure "federalist" or whatever. We just like being able to be selective.
There were over 1,200 'filibusters' in the Congressional terms between 2009 and 2020, slightly more by Democrats but pretty evenly split. In the whole history of Congress there have been around 2,500 filibuster motions, so that means roughly half of them have come since Barack Obama was elected. That's comedy levels of asinine.

Also, Alexander Hamilton should rightfully be regarded as one of the most impactful humans of the last 300 years, never mind just Americans.

The Senate is a vestige of the notion of a nation that was extinguished well over a century ago. The country just does not operate that way any longer. The quaint idea of states as mini sovereigns does not reflect the reality that today they are little more than geographic demarcations (outside of a few significant things that I believe should be the province of federal jurisdiction, anyway). The ten smallest states - who all wield equal power in the Senate - have fewer people than the boroughs of New York City; Los Angeles County more than doubles them up, and Texas outnumbers them by around 4x. In the first census the smallest state population had around 1.7% of the total people surveyed and the biggest had around 19%; today there are like 30 states with 1.7% or lower, including 20 that are sub-1%, and the largest states are between 12% and 5%. It's asymmetric and stupid.

'Rhode Island' should not have the same say as 'Florida'. But an Rhode Islander should absolutely have the same say as an Floridian.

Hamilton's America on PBS was excellent.

The same description would apply to Karl Marx. Doesn't mean that the "impact" on humanity has been a positive. Same with Hamilton, notwithstanding the racially-inaccurate but popular musical.

To paraphrase the great Rowan Atkinson, I spurn Alexander Hamilton as I would spurn a rabid dog.

Nah. I’m sure our forefathers sang… none of them rapped (or wrapped) though.

I’m not sure what it is about studying law and getting into these seemingly purposeful ridiculous bad takes moods from time to time… shyster, tif, slappy, dodint, grunty (I’m sure he has a relative that’s a lawyer).

Sure it's bad that we had a President willing to entertain and indulge in this s**t. That a document like that even exists in the context of the peaceful transfer of power is terrifying in its own right. But the real problem is that for around 25% - 30% of the country, this is perfectly okay and nbd.
