Sister in Roxborough has been detouring around flooded roads all day. No real damage, and the Wildwood house actually got off easier. She did drop my niece off at her gym after a half day of school, only for the road to the gym to get flooded later so they got a few extra hours of practice while flooded in.

Did the @Morkle family go to the beach?
Yup. Last night was a crazy included a big storm and a tornado warning at 4am.

Everything was beautiful today minus losing power at 6am. Still not back yet, otherwise so far so good.

The number of power outages in the mid Atlantic and Northeast is incredible. We were lucky in that while we did get a lot of rain (5") and some wind, the edge of the severe outages was about 10 miles east of here.

Power came back on early this am and it’s shaping up to be another great day. Good to go.

One of my work team members is in Norfolk and is on is second day with no power. He's about to throw in the towel and go to a hotel room so he can get some AC and power for work.

Didn't lose power, but a small section of siding on the second floor above the roof of my garage got ripped off. Of course it is an area that would make it very difficult to fix on my own, and the cost to fix it will probably be below my homeowners deductible. The earliest the one contractor could come out to give an estimate was September 8th.

A good friend of mine works for First Energy. He said that JCP&L switched to a special type of cable that's supposed to be able to withstand tree branches and stuff, so they don't do as much proactive trimming around power lines out there. I don't know if it's true but it makes sense.

JCP&L is usually hot garbage. They took a lot of heat after Sandy.

I lost power a few years ago for a couple days. I didn't want to deal with that again so I bought a whole hose natural gas powered generator that will also handle the AC. It comes on automatically when power shuts down. And of course since I bought it I have only needed it a few short times, but once was a very cold winter day and was very glad I had it.

So we had 5" of rain at our house from Isaias. Today, I'm watching a massive super cell just crush our house on radar and the weather station. Over 2" and counting.

We were lucky to only have a bit of water in a confined portion of our basement, but with how saturated the ground is now.... Not good

Coming your way @NTP66

Yes, they got hit with a terrible derecho out there. This is insane and sad:

I saw a political candidate send his condolences to victims of the derecho in Iowa, and I honestly thought it was an autocorrect issue. I’d never heard that term before that Twitter post.

Yesterday's high temp in Death Valley was 130F, which means that bit of California was medium rare.

The climate data for Furnace Creek just fascinates me. Low temperatures over 100 are impressive.

My FIL inherited his family's house in Iowa City. He goes once a year for about a month to maintain it and keep it in working condition. He was there during the storm and ended up leaving early since he had no power. Said I-80W was utility truck after utility truck going to help out.

I also have relatives on my mother's side in Clinton and surrounding areas. Facebook tells me some of them still don't have power.

I know this is a running joke but you're right, it is crazy seeing a temperature of 125 with a dew point of 40 (!)

Changes are coming. This is a look at the 850mb temperature map for two weeks from today. The elevation of the 850mb pressure layer varies, but is typically near 5,000 feet. Blue lines mean below freezing.

The 850mb maps are a solid indicator/predictor of future weather.

Cooler weather, lower humidity.
