The alert says 1-3 inches for me, but like - this isn't something that's even a blip on the radar. Who cares.
I think more of the fear was it changing to freezing rain during rush hour though this time around. Which honestly, I'm not a fan of freezing rain. Snow, no problem. Ice/sleet, not a good combo.

Finally getting some snow here. I'm starting to become a little more happy. I like snow.

It amused me how people were complaining about schools going virtual on the chance of it being crappy during bus/rush hours. Like what's the big deal even if it doesn't snow? Virtual learning is easy and convenient now for most school districts. Why run the risk?

My guess is two-fold:

1. People that aren't equipped at home to do the virtual learning... typically poor people that don't have easy access to the internet and computers.

2. People that don't have flexibility with work. They either can't work from home or can't take off, whichever.

If you're anything other than those two, then you're just a whiner.

1 --- I totally get.

2 --- What did those people do when kids just had a delay or a snow day back in the day? It would be the same thing just no actual learning being done.
My mom just went to work and I either walked to school if there was a delay, or when there was a snow day I just stayed home by myself (even in elementary school). I know things are different these days, but it's not that different.

Oh, I understand they they need to just deal, but at least it's a reasonable reason to be upset, especially if the snow doesn't hit and they call it especially early.

Yea, the whole staying by yourself thing has changed a lot. My parents would have me stay at home by myself pretty regularly when I was 7-10 because there was simply no other option.

Now, seems as if people aren't even considering that.

You'll go to jail now if you leave a first grader home for the day by themselves.

My mom was a stay at home mom when we were growing up, so we didn't have these issues. But in today's world you have both parents working most of the time. My wife and I are fortunate that we have flexibility and it's not an issue, but I dont' think everyone has that luxury.

Fair point. Things are different that way for sure. My mom was a single mom and she had to go to work regardless...so I had to fend for myself. I was a latchkey kid, but yeah these days that would probably get Protective services called if the same situation happened.

I guess either way there will be people complaining.

Small craft warning here today, heavy winds and rain coming for my commute home.

But there is snow in the forecast for next Friday! It won't happen, but it's always nice to see in the forecast.

Some absolutely insane wind. I had a tree blow down onto my neighbors property. Thankfully it did no damage. 10 feet to the right and it takes out their transformer and power lines.

26 below zero at Lake Placid this morning. Wind chill hit a record low of 110 degrees below zero on Mount Washington.

That's 45 below with 95 mph winds.

And there are apparently people up there at the NWS station according to the replies to that tweet. Dang!

I would most definitely spend the maximum amount of time permitted to just see what -110 wind chill feels like.

That has to be what, 5 to 10 minutes before it starts to get dangerous?

I’d bet less than 5 minutes… like a minute, depending on your definition of “dangerous”. Hard to imagine what that feels like.

Is there a reason why it gets such crazy weather? The proximity to the coast?

I had to wear PPE at work to go in a -76 degree freezer. They said within 2-3 minutes frostbite could set in
