It wouldn't be on purpose. There are a number of options. Someone might have thrown something into the trash that was still smoldering, like a cigarette butt, and it lit the trash on the truck on fire. Another cause for a trash fire is that someone threw away something that they shouldn't have, such as chemicals that reacted and caught on fire, or a lithium-ion battery that got crushed by the compactor and lit on fire.

Ended up with around two inches of rain yesterday, followed by super high winds that will continue through the rest of the day today. Had to drive back home from Philly to Lancaster County yesterday afternoon, what an utter mess. Flooding everywhere.

With the windy conditions since yesterday, this is a relatively uncommon weather alert for the Great Lakes:

Thoughts and prayers to those in PA. The 30 random days of decent weather for a calendar year must be just about used up.

The Talking Hairdo on the local news tonite said that next Wednesday night might be the official state holiday of Florida -- the first night when you can turn off the A/C and leave the windows open. Fingers crossed.

One of the fires of the last day was apparently started when a garbage truck dumped burning trash. Why they were carrying burning trash is unclear to me.
My buddy is a supervisor at the landfill and he said that garbage just kind of combusts when it's in the trucks.

It's reached the point where I have to put the scooter away to hibernate.

I learned the hard way that when you are bagging grass, you have to be verrrrrrry careful how long you bag it for and how full you fill the bag. Went out to my garage to find the bag smoldering.

We've gotten some mild tastes of late autumn, but this weekend will certainly usher in some serious chill.

Calling for 1.25" of rain, peaking in the early evening tomorrow here in Allison Park. Temps in the mid-50s during dusk.

I wonder if my wife can take this candy back to the store.

You're Shaler, right? Some communities are moving Trick or Treating to the weekend. Richland Township is still tomorrow, but I'm hoping they change it.

Yeah, I just looked up the Shaler municipal site and it didn't say anything about moving it. I'm out of town this weekend anyway so either way it's a lot of candy for two people watching their figures. ;)

I checked right after I posted and our website said tomorrow is still on. I go and read another thread, refresh the township website, and it's been moved to Friday night.

Zelie announced on their FB page that after "careful consideration" Trick or Treating will remain tomorrow evening. Spurred a bunch of "won't somebody think of the children!?!" posts going toe to toe with "nobody postponed Halloween back in my day; kids today are SOFT" posts. I hate humanity.

Good call, thanks. Glad to see they're getting use out of that giant flashing red light on the site.

Saturday has a high of 50, the warmest of the weekend highs, and no rain in sight. It's probably the right call but you can tell how pained they were to make it:
After much consideration and thought, the Township has decided to change trick or treat to Saturday, November 2nd between the hours of 6-8 p.m. Please understand that this was not an easy decision and is based on information available to us at the present time. We realize that for as many parents that are happy about this decision, we will have an equal number of parents that are not happy. We want the children to have a safe and fun evening and believe that the weather conditions on Saturday are more promising for a great night of trick or treating fun. Please be safe and wear reflective clothing or glow lights for visibility.

So like four more fires have sparked in the last couple days, we're dealing with 30+ mph sustained winds with gusts to 70, and our power just went out. Yay.
