I always mark in my head what I think the "turning point" of a season is...I always feel like there's that one more really hot or really cold day before the weather breaks for good...I'm assuming this is the last summer day we have for six months...

As someone who can take the heat and loves nightlife, this is slightly disappointing...but it also means hockey season, which is invigorating...

lol I meant in October.

Yes, this weekend is looking ammaaaazzzzing for autumn. Highs in the low to mid 60s, sunny, and breezy. Lows in the low 40s at night. I think Friday morning might be our first sub-40 low of the season.

My goal in life is to retire where a low of 40 is a rare occurrence.

I drove to and from work with the top-down the last two days, not bad.

I'm still 10 years away but every once in a while I'll browse homes for sale along the Gulf Coast. Hurricanes be damned.

I'd probably be perfectly happy living somewhere where the temperature was 40° year round.

This week might actually see me run the AC and then the furnace on two consecutive days, and I'm someone who keeps the AC at 78° and the heat at 64°.

That big ridge is going to deteriorate tomorrow, and the cool temps will fight back. Inevitable in autumn...heat waves just don't last.

We're having a porch with a fire pit put in at our house. Might be done tomorrow, which is perfect timing for the weekend. Even if it isn't done, I may just go and burn some stuff. Perfect weather for it.

Welp, made it to October 5 before needing to turn the heat on. 37.2 F at my house this morning. It was down to 67 inside so figured I would take the edge off, especially with a newborn on the loose

Absolutely PERFECT weather right now. Working at home today, and sitting out on my deck with my laptop just soaking it up. It won't last long.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd it's wildfire season. Woohoo.

Three different ones lit off yesterday within about 15 miles or so of our house, fanned by stronger-than-usual Santa Ana winds. We've had 25-35 mph sustained for 24 hours now, and gusts up to 55+.

To that point: the Saddleridge fire has grown to nearly 5,000 acres in one day, and around 100,000 people are facing potential evacuation.

Aren't there rolling blackouts in California now too?

Yes, but thankfully not by our utility. Yet. The North Bay/Wine a country Fires two years ago were caused by downed poorly-maintained lines run by PG&E, and the liability for that forced then to BK. So PG&E and SoCal Edison preemptively cut power to certain customers because of the gusting Santa Ana winds.

Also, CalTrans has issued a statement: "Avoid the entire San Fernando Valley area." :|

I’ll be in Anaheim next week.

Have I mentioned it’s one of least favorite work destinations. At least it’ll be warm.

What's frustrating is that 90% of wildfires are human-caused. Whether it is some fcking dadhole throwing a lit cigarette out the window (have I mentioned I hate these people?), a downed power line, etc. Only like 10% are caused by completely natural causes. And yes, the Santa Ana winds are no joke.

One of the fires of the last day was apparently started when a garbage truck dumped burning trash. Why they were carrying burning trash is unclear to me.
