Probably isn't the right place for this, but the cicadas are coming!

https://triblive.com/news/regional/cica ... is-spring/
Ugh.
I remember going to Gettysburg with boy scouts in 2002. And when we came across the breezewood rest stop, the front of our white van was brown with these things.
The last time we REALLY got hit with cicadas I was a high school kid and real into paintball. My friends and I thought it was hilarious to jam cicadas into the chamber and shoot them at each other. In retrospect, we sound like future serial killers.
In your defense they die anyway.

I-70 is currently closed west of Denver. Why, you ask?

Nope.

When I was in Portland we drove to Tacoma and took the scenic route. Survived luckily.

"A chance of snow before 1pm, then a chance of rain and snow between 1pm and 2pm, then a chance of rain after 2pm."

In all seriousness I'm pretty sure these are written by bots.

They are. The automated forecasts (i.e. the weather apps) are just based on a blend of modeling and auto-generated. Would take way too long and too much manpower to hand-craft a forecast for every single zip code. Esp. the hourly forecasts.

Yeah, I figured. A few years ago Yahoo hired an AI firm to do their fantasy football recaps so you can have an individualized recap for every user for every game. It's pretty cool tech. I imagine weather is probably easier since there are so few actual parameters that need to be conveyed.

The quote I posted was for zip code 15101 on weather.gov for Friday.

Have you checked out the Accuweather 90 day forecast? What a colossally stupid thing that is.

Tell me if I am wrong, but the only value I see in that, and its not something that's 100% stone cold lock to any extent, is to see warming and cooling trends generally.

I use the calendar on Wunderground that does, I think, 14 days of forecasting and then it transitions into average high/low/condition for that time of year. It's good enough for me.

Correct. It really just revolves around average highs and lows, but most of us use forecasts to monitor precipitation, I would think.

Yep, there is zero value to Accuweather telling you its going to rain on March 29th on March 6th. I remember when it came out a few years back they took a bunch of heat from metereologists for it being useless from that standpoint. I mainly like to look at the longer-term forecast this time of year to see when the moonscape that is Pittsburgh returns to habitability. Today is not one of those days as its f'n freezing.

I am sitting on the porch watching the game on the iPad. Enjoying some pops.

Its my birthday, it usually snows on my birthday, so I'll take it!
