I had a hard time finding a gas station that had product to sell me. The first two I tried were out.
All the gas stations in Kings Mountain, Clover, and York were out earlier today.

Ive got 30 gallons in my shed if you get hard up.
Indian Land area seems to have plenty.
I may drive over there today. ;)
Still seemed supplied this morning... 521 has a ton of gas stations on it, so if you do, that road might be your best bet.

Ha, just realized you're already well stocked... I do wonder what the gas situation will be over the next couple weeks.

By no means suggesting that our impact in PGH is in the same universe as what the folks along the coast will deal with, but current track has it dying out directly over PGH on Tuesday. Expect more flooding next week if this holds, I suppose.

I happened to go fill up the gas cans I use for my mower, just to get them filled for the rest of the year, last week.

I went through a hurricane and two tropical storms when I lived in Mississippi and this storm is beyond bizarre in that no one has any idea what this storm is going to do this close to landfall.

I was assured in this very thread that the OBX would be removed from the map; not sure what more you're looking for.

I've heard 2 people at work say that the hurricane is only going to be a cat 1 now and it's the media that's creating fear trying to hype up global warming and people are dumb for evacuating as this is no big deal.

I'd agree with this part.

Who cares what cat it is? This thing is going to stall and rain it’s brains out for a week

Category strength is only related to wind speed, not flooding potential.

The area is still going to get dunked on by rain and flooding.

Also, weather is hard to predict. The sky is also blue.

The cat number matters to the betting pools, obviously.

Thank you. People get so ridiculously fixated on the wind speeds/categories. Yes, higher winds = more damage. That said, the biggest threat was never wind with this storm, it was the aforementioned stall and resultant multiple feet of rain.

Wilmington's three-day rainfall record is just over 19", which was established during Hurricane Floyd. They are going to absolutely shatter that record.

Regarding the post on the last page about the OBX getting devastated...yes, when it was looking like a Cat 4 Florence might make landfall near Hatteras, that was accurate. Storm tracks change, there are an absurd number of variables in play. For example, the wind shear from that upper level low that formed in Florida. That ULL probably cut this thing by two categories when it is all said and done.

It's a lot easier to predict future movement when there are strong steering patterns in place. When you have a system like this that is essentially going to run into a blocking wall *somewhere* near or on the coast, it gets very tricky.

Yeah, storm tracks change. And you like to pick the most devastating scenario and run with it. You're like BIG WEATHER, and we love you for it. ;)

Finally, Hurricane Sandy is actually a decent analog for this storm. Sandy was down to Category 1 and transitioning to an extratropical storm whenever it finally made landfall in New Jersey. However, there was still catastrophic storm surge flooding due to the shear size of the storm as well as the fetch over the ocean. It approached almost directly from due east, like Florence is going to. Storm surge is one thing that can vastly outperform whatever arbitrary category the storm is.

Sandy made landfall as a rapidly weakening Cat 1 and is the fourth costliest hurricane in history.

lol, I'm definitely not. I am admittedly very fond of the OBX so there was some emotional interest there. I try, from my sadly underwhelming level of knowledge, to educate yinz on some stuff. I can't stand the Weather Channel hype crap, but on the flip side it's also scary when people on the southern NC coast go "hurr durr it's weakening and only a Cat 1, I'm staying!".

The media has to create fear because otherwise the public won't heed warnings. Public won't heed warning because the media creates fear.

God creates dinosaurs. God destroys dinosaurs. God creates man. Man destroys God. Man creates dinosaurs. Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the earth.

According to the news I just watched the full landfall will be tomorrow at 8am and then track southwest, to due south, and then go across central southern South Carolina and up to Greenville and ride the Appalachian Mountain ridge all the way to Paris.
