It's been very quiet hurricane season, but like we talked about a few weeks ago, the longer you go without one the more potential for a major since the water is so warm.

Is this gonna come up and give us a shitty stretch of rain?

Woof. My buddy in Fort Myers was planning on riding it out. Hopefully he's changed his mind.

7am update is ominous.

My folks live in Venice, about 24 miles up the coast from Port Charlotte. They were just here this weekend and insisted on going home so they could prep their house. They’re about to get rocked. They’re in evacuation zone C. A & B have been evacuated so they’re next. I wouldn’t be surprised if they get ordered soon.

These rain bands are packing a punch for sure. In palm beach, we've had 24 tornado warnings since last night. Had one touch down for sure in Delray Beach last night. cars were thrown around like hot wheels.

Finally heard from my friend. He and his wife had a change of heart in the middle of the night and took off to his brother's place in Orlando. Probably still gonna suck but at least it should have downgraded and he won't have to deal with the storm surge.

I love The Weather Channel. Not because they're good but because their lack of shame is something to behold. Events like these give them full license to just do complete and unabashed fearcasting. I say that to mean they constantly fearcast at all times, but they have to step up their game now because they really mean it.

The boy who cried wolf but with a bullhorn.

I'm in the same boat. Found myself watching the Weather Channel all last night and I'll watch it when I get home from work today.

Just sucks for the people getting hit.

My folks just checked in. They told me not to worry because they have a crank hurricane radio all ready to go. Thanks, Mom.

Kids/wife have an e-learning day Friday. :scared:

My wife, a teacher in the same district, found out via an email to parents. (See Jobs thread for more info on her work situation).

No word on my work, yet. My boss says they are loathe to cancel/postpone anything...because there is a home football game Saturday afternoon. Well...that's a reason, I guess.

Weather channel just reported that Venice (where my parents live) is likely directly in the path of the eye wall.

nocera parent update: Venice is now in a full shelter in place order, including first responders. They've moved into the safest room in their condo to ride it out. They're a few miles from the shore so the surge shouldn't be an issue but obviously the wind is going to be intense.

Yeah, the wind is going to be nuts. Hope they are able to ride it out safely.

Can't imagine trying to ride out something like this. Hope they stay safe.
