Yeah, but how do you not move it to a safe location?

Took until about 2:30am but the worst of it rolled into Orlando. Lots of yellow on the radar and the wind gusting around 50. The rickety wooden fence that I was procrastinating on replacing has bit the dust so that will be a fun cleanup tomorrow or Friday and it'll be fun keeping the neighbor's pit bull out of my yard until I can get it fixed (for the record, the dog is incredibly friendly...I just don't want any land mines around). Haven't seen what the front area or the street looks like with tree shrapnel because I ain't going out there until this dies. The good news is that it's moving faster than expected and should be into the Atlantic by noon.

If they can afford it to begin with, the question is probably irrelevant.Yeah, but how do you not move it to a safe location?

Glad you're safe! A guy on my team is in Orlando also and said this was worse than Andrew, the length of the storm being the biggest difference. Said hurricane force winds for hours, and he still can't get up on his roof to investigate a leak thanks to the wind. At 9amTook until about 2:30am but the worst of it rolled into Orlando. just heard back from my friends in Sarasota. They just moved into a newly built place last month. No flooding was mentioned, but he did say he lost quite a few shingles from the roof.
He did say that this one was the roughest one that he's been through so far.

We already have 20 mph sustained winds. Gusts up to 35. Storm is still more than 24 hours away.

I live right across the street from Universal and given how the winds were after midnight and what they were when I woke up at 9, I'm not surprised about that damage. I'd love to get out there and walk around a bit to survey but not while it's still raining a bit and the wind is still kicked up. Probably get to be out this evening. My immediate area (at least what I can see from my front bedroom windows) looks clean, which is in stark contrast to much of the Orlando area. It was reported earlier that all roads leading off the expressways to the airport are flooded and there are numerous water rescues going on all over the place. It's been pretty fascinating to witness this but my opinion is a bit skewed by the fact that I've had very little issues.

Everyone in our building - 200-300 people- all just got the emergency broadcast alert that we were now under a hurricane warning. That...was loud. 200 mobile phones blaring at the same time.

I was able to talk to my folks for about a minute earlier. They can receive calls but cannot make any outgoing calls, texts, and they don't expect to have any power for a day or two. My dad had set up some flood barriers at his doorways and those worked well so he was happy with himself. Apparently they had water come up to their house and lots of trees are down. They still haven't been able to inspect the damage and my dad isn't really able to get up on the roof anymore so who knows how bad it is. But, they're safe and have plenty of supplies. I wouldn't be surprised if the next time they get a hurricane, they evacuate regardless of the orders.

Ian took a HARD right turn once it made landfall, I think it ended up popping back out into the Atlantic around Port Canaveral (earlier modeling suggested closer to Jacksonville). That is not ideal for points north, as it gives it that much more time to reform. Already at 70 mph sustained, should easily get to Cat 1 (maybe even Cat 2) before it makes landfall again in the low country.
Remnants are going to make for a pretty gray, shtty few days up this way.
Nice view from Avalon Pier in OBX, crazy how rough the sea is given Ian's distance.
