This is my parents. AGAIN. Penn Power website alleges it'll come back on at 11:30. I'll believe it when I see it.

And of course, immediately after I post that, Mom texts to say the power is on.

It's now snowing in downtown Pittsburgh. The heavy, wet snow.

This was probably the most difficult time I've had snow throwing the driveway. Was only about 2" deep but it was good and heavy. Had to make several passes in a few places.

I have the probable misguided faith that the roads will be treated well enough for the commute tomorrow morning.
Should be good, right? Looks like the Thursday portion of all this completely dissipated. I'm seeing no precip tomorrow then it's above freezing from Saturday on. Mid 40s next week.

Yup, this weekend is looking very mild around here (49, 52) with rain. That will wipe out a lot of whatever snow is left. I'm thinking this will be another year without a significant snow event (6+"). Buying a snowblower is indeed the kiss of death.

I bought 50 lbs of ice melt yesterday. Now I’m sure it won’t snow again this season.

Finally got a proper rain gauge, next up is a weather station for my birthday this year. 0.55" of rain today, just not our year for snow :(

Is a proper rain gauge different than a graduated cylinder? Not being snarky, I'm curious if they have to be a certain diameter or something to be considered legit.

Fine question. Basically, it's a large cylinder, but there is a smaller cylinder (the actual gauge) that goes in the middle. Then, you screw on the lid which has a funnel that feeds down into the gauge part. The idea is that the measurement ticks are so far apart, you are able to eyeball it down to a hundredth of an inch easily. There are varying levels of precision--this one is extremely precise.

If it rains over an inch, it starts to overflow into the outer portion of the cylinder, and you can measure that separately.

North of the city got around 2”...I’m in the West side, and this unexpected snowfall produced the worst driving conditions for me this whole winter.

Got about 2-3 inches in Shadyside. Roads are a mess leading into town.
