Steady pouring rain in bright sunshine. This state, man.
Weather Thread
There have been around 160 aftershocks in the immediate area surrounding the epicenter. (We haven't felt anything) One just hit during a Kern County emergency responders presser.

Would you rather it:
Not rain when they are calling for it?
Rain when they weren't calling for it?
Wanted to stain kids swingset today and didn't because it was calling for rain. Never rained

Always not rain...

So that was just a 7.1, epicentered in the same vicinity as yesterday's shake. More substantial movement, wider amplitude, slightly longer duration. Woohoo.

6.9, but who's counting.

Same thing happened yesterday, initial magnitude downgraded a couple tenths within 30 minutes or so.
But USGS and Caltech are both back to 7.1. Yay.

Interesting that the Quake Alert system didn't activate because the quake was not >5.0 in Los Angeles proper. Seems like a design flaw.Same thing happened yesterday, initial magnitude downgraded a couple tenths within 30 minutes or so.

More aftershocks coming I'm sure.

The point of the system is to flag people in the metro area to the possibility of imminent shake damage (which is a different scale than what measures magnitude). If the alert was just 'quake' they'd be firing off warnings 10+ times a day, and people would start ignoring themInteresting that the Quake Alert system didn't activate because the quake was not >5.0 in Los Angeles proper. During the USGS/Caltech press conference last night the one geologist lady got a push notice of an aftershock while she was speaking. They called up the interactive map on the big screen that showed the shock wave propagating out from the fault with a countdown timer showing how many seconds til the wave would hit their location in Pasadena. Sure enough , the wave hit their dot on the map and the clock hit zero, and the camera started shaking and all the media were like "Whoa! Do you feel that?"More aftershocks coming I'm sure.
We didn't really feel that one where we live, but the pool did get a bit sloshy for a minute.

One thing I love about living in Lancaster County--can't beat the line of sight/clear horizons. You could see the gust front blowing in ahead of the main line of storms before it hit (illustrated by the ratty looking "scud" clouds overhead)

No end in sight for the heat. Not that it's surprising (it is the hottest month of the year, after all).

Temps are not too bad here in St. Paul, but the dew point is super high and it is uncharacteristically sticky. Going to try to get a run in on the river trail Friday afternoon but some even more aggressive and oppressive weather is rolling in.

Dew points in the upper 70s coming up...kill me now.

Weather is beautiful in Rehoboth today. Highs 70s/low 80s, blue sky sunny, and a slight breeze. Perfect beach weather.

Anybody on here actually home in the north? Sounds like armageddon. I'm dreading going home today - they did sewer repair work in front of my house and have generic fill in there that has already fallen through once from the rain (leaving part of my driveway with no support underneath.) I imagine more of the same today.
