I think this has happened before recently, but the NHC ran out of names for tropical storms and hurricanes and had to switch to the Green alphabet. And we’re already at TS Beta.

2005. That was a ‘fun’ year for storms.

The good news here is that conditions are far less favorable for development in the northern Gulf (cooler shelf waters, significantly increased shear). So it should weaken a little bit (perhaps to Cat 2) status by the time it hits landfall. Regardless, another bad hit for the Gulf.

Shaping up to be a very strong La Nina this winter. What does that mean for PA? Milder winter, less snow (generally).

Sucks... Was actually hoping for a brutal winter to kill off all of the damn bugs.

Hard freeze will kill adult lanternflies, but their egg masses can survive. Seeks them out and scrape them off.

Yeah I know it won't kill the egg masses, we are just overdue for a harsh winter (I'm not even talking snow, just cold) to lower the bug population for a few years.

Nope, but if you can scrape them into a baggie with alcohol or hand sanitizer and then seal and dispose, all the better.

October 23 and I'm sitting out on my deck in shorts and a polo enjoying the breeze and watching the sun set. Life is good.

Yup, it's looking like the widespread first hard freeze will be either the morning of 10/30 or 10/31, depending on how far east you are.

I've been trying to understand this for way too long. Is this saying that due to La Nina we're going to have a mild winter? Or due to La Nina, we're going to have a cold af winter?
