The reprieve is welcome, although a quieter start to hurricane season usually results in warmer waters in the tropics as there are no big storms to cool down the water. The hallmark of the 2022 hurricane season — so far — has been uncharacteristic calmness, and the benign conditions might not change for the remainder of August, forecasters say.
This could be just the third August since 1961, and the first August since 1997, without a named storm, according to AccuWeather, the independent forecasting service.
As Wednesday’s 30th anniversary of Hurricane Andrew approaches, it’s also interesting to note this season’s calm follows 2021, the third-most active season with 21 named storms, and 2020, the most active season with 30 named storms. And this year was the first time in seven years there wasn’t a named storm before the June 1 start of hurricane season.

Desperately needed rain for many folks in the Northeast. We have 3.23" in the gauge since 7:00 yesterday morning, the vast majority of which has fallen since midnight.

We're in the midst of some goofy weather last week, this, and next.
Costal temps are hitting the high 90s, which is super rare, but the overnight lows in the 70s are normal enough for this time of year. Drive 3 miles into the canyons and the daytime highs are roughly the same, but the overnight lows are only dropping maybe 5-10 degrees, which is odd. Continue on another 5-8 miles over the hill and into the Valley (where I live) and highs are hitting 105-110 every day for 8 or 9 days running now, which is well above average for an extended period like this. Continue inland to the eastern edge of the local TV channels' viewing area and they're having daily flood warnings, plus what they call "monsoonal moisture" is causing flash thunderstorms all over the place. And then there's the annual race to see what parks get the most acreage burned by wildfires.

What are they confirming? That there is steam venting? I can see that on the video. I think the Rainier NPS staff have their hands full right now, Kristen.

Well, it might be smoke from a wildfire. On the inside lip of the rim. Of the volcano.

Which, flying up to the PNW from where I live is pretty great. The scenery once you get over the Cascades is remarkable. You fly about 10 miles offset to the east of Rainier and St Helens, so if you're on the west side of the aircraft you get great views. But then there's the woods and Oregon wine country. It's a really beautiful part of the world for DB Cooper's corpse to have rotted in.

Always going to have these kind of days when it rains.69F here with a dew point of 68F. 99% humidity.
I'm looking at the forecast for later this week... Wow. Highs in the low 70s and lows almost into the 40s. Fall is arriving.
Really hoping the forecast for Coudersport area stays intact. Calling for highs around 70 through the weekend with no rain. We are heading up Thursday through Sunday. Just want at least one night of clear skies. I literally planned this trip around avoiding the moon

Yes, we are going to Maple Grove in Mohnton for the NHRA races Saturday and Sunday. The weather is looking absolutely phenomenal for some drag racing Sunday.

We're heading down to Tennessee to do some kayaking later this week. 85F and sunny every day on the 10-day forecast. Excellent way to bid adeu to summer.

This last day or so has been perfect. Able to keep the windows open all day and all night with a nice breeze and the air is nice and dry. I see we are going back to mid 80's next week though... blah. I want fall weather.

Just looks like a couple days scratching at the mid 80's. You jabronis are acting like it's gonna be July in Houston out there.

I'd just rather not have to turn on the A/C at this point. If we hit mid 80's I'm running the air. I'd much rather it be cool like it has been the last day or so ...to just leave all the windows open and have a nice comfortable breeze going through the house.
