Also, yet another rainstorm coming this way for Thursday and Friday. This flat out sucks. I would take 15 degree sunny days over this crap.
Makes me happy I traveled today rather than tomorrow or Friday. Sadly, it doesn’t look like I’m bringing much Florida warmth to Central PA.

This. The sky this morning in the Greater Pgh area was a breath of fresh air. Clear, a hint of pink/purple in the few clouds that were floating about. Perfect.

One of my favorite things to do when taking out the trash Thursday nights is to look up and see a cloudless, starry sky. It may be -10 degrees, but I'll just stand there and stare for a while.

I like the wind speed map as well. The northern Pacific seems like a scary place.
Oh yes. The winds blow like crazy off of the Pacific into the PNW, which is why their weather is always cooler in the summer and moderated in the winter. I have been on a Coast Guard cutter up in that area, and I can confirm that it is indeed a scary place.

SFO has a CG Air Station, and probably at least four or five times a week we get overflown by a Dolphin helo heading out to sea. I don't know if they're rescues, or if they're just going to observe, or if it's training, or what. But they go up an awful lot.

There's a CG training facility is in the Marin/Sonoma area near Bodega Bay. Aside from the service's culinary school, I don't know what they do there. But at least there's that.

Video from a guy who was out to film the (scrubbed) Delta IV heavy launch:

It's a high-altitude contrail of some sort being lit up by the setting (or even set) sun. As the guy notes in the video, it's much brighter than other jet contrails.

My wild-ass guess: a fighter pilot flying at high altitude briefly lit up the afterburners, which produced a denser/smokier contrail that caught more light.

some good vibes post.

I usually try to get in 15-20 minute walk with the dog before bed. every once in a while when the night is actually clear it is nice to look at the stars while the dog is sniffing something stupid. about a month or two ago there was a full moon AND a clear sky so we actually went down into frick park for a nighttime stroll and it was still very bright.

It's funny, I have come to hate bright moons because it always interferes with nighttime sky viewing. And of course last week, the weather sucked for the Geminid meteor shower AND Comet Wirtanen.

Flood watches up for the entire northeast, virtually. This storm tonight and tomorrow is going to pack one hell of a wallop. Temperatures are going to be near 60 here, and the moisture in the air is going to be more typical of a humid, summer storm than late freaking December.

This water vapor image is from last night, but you can see how much moisture this thing is pulling out of the gulf.

Bonkers weather this morning. It has been pouring rain all night, and it is 62 damn degrees here.

When I opened up my garage to go to work, everything inside including my car windows flash fogged up. Feels weird having this tropical air mass on the first day of winter almost

It's bloody windy here. Maybe building at the top of a hill in a huge open field was a bad idea.

Bigly cold front moved through last night, hence the line of severe thunderstorms. Temperatures will be much colder over the next week-plus. Hopefully this is the start of winter actually getting here.
