Whoa. I've never seen back end lightning like I am with this storm. Still seeing a ton of cloud to cloud and CTG lightning and the line has already moved into Maryland. Got some cool videos.

Not really weather-related, but this is the closest we have to a 'natural phenomenon' thread, so I'm putting it here.

We had a very mild earthquake last evening, mag 3.5, depth around 9km: Hard jolt then a few seconds of gentle rolling. The animals didn't even respond to it, but Mrs Tif and I realized that while there have been around eight or ten quakes hit since we've been together, this was the first time we were in the same physical location at the time. Neat.

There were also a lot of mammatus clouds, which form at the base of cumulonimbus clouds by sinking cold air forming pockets. Relatively uncommon in these parts. And yes,*that's* why they are called mammatus:

A late lightning bolt hit right outside my apartment and the resultant thunder physically shook the building...

The storm gave me a chance to get a good cross-breeze going through the apartment after it got up to 400 degrees today, so that was a plus...and now just 120 straight hours of rain to go *upside down smiley*

South Hills got crushed. Flooding all over the area. The T was shut down in Castle Shannon between Washington Junction and St. Anne's because the tracks were flooded.

Pretty much all of eastern PA/NJ is under a flash flood watch through Friday.

There were five recorded fatalities from that severe outbreak, mostly people dying from falling limbs. Winds + wet trees are a bad combination.

Baldwin was just on Good Morning America showing floodwaters halfway up a garage door.

Of course they fail to mention that garage is downhill below ground level.

We are pushing 5.5" of rain here since the thunderstorms on Monday. This is absurd...haven't seen the sky since about 3 PM on Monday, even through a small sliver of clouds. Thank God I was able to get out Friday afternoon to mow my grass during a brief dry window, because it poured all day today. The sun is allegedly supposed to come out tomorrow, albeit with scattered storms.

It was wonderful to feel the sun on my skin today...and then it stormed. Now it’s getting sunny again. I’ll take what I can get

Saw the sky for the first time in six years today...10 minutes of that and I put my AC in...I'd say summer is here, but there's one thing that isn't quite right...Washington is still playing, when Tampa beats them on Monday, then I'll consider it summer officially...stay tuned...

First tropical system of the year to form in the Gulf, just in time for Memorial Day Weekend!

:face:

Just a few weeks ago, I was shivering out at the ballfield.

Looks like another year with hardly any spring. Sigh. There was a day last week where it was warm, sunny, but not humid, and breezy. It was great being out on my deck. I love that weather. Today I was on my deck and humid, stagnant hair. My shirt was drenched after a little bit sitting in my deck chairs. Looks like mid-high 80s Friday and Saturday. Three weeks ago we had to wear winter coats to Kennywood.

With temps in the 80’s in the foreseeable future here in the burg, it’s time to turn on the AC.

Just put in the window unit for our bedroom upstairs. At some point, we are going to need to look at getting a second central air unit and make it two zones, because the upstairs stays fairly warm in the summer.
