I see it much like a baseball game. Big play then stand up and cheer. Then sit down.

If anybody is interested in going to see Me First and the Gimme Gimmes tonight at the Roxian, I have a few extra tickets that I’m looking to give away.
Just drop your email in a DM and I’ll forward them over.

Parking is now $30 there. Was just there to see Finch. Insanity.

At the Roxian? I never had to pay for parking. Either park way in the back lot or park curbside.
I lucked out and I’m literally right across the street from the ticket booth.

Re: Parking. I had a preshow beer at the bar across the street because the line going in wasn't moving when I got there. The bartender that was working said those groups that are collecting parking money haven't had an official permit for their spaces in years and that the parking attendant doesn't watch the cars once people go inside. I don't know how true that is, but she made it a point to tell everybody to never pay for parking near the building, so maybe it is? I was gonna ask if it was just a random guy taking money for parking.
But the show itself was pretty interesting. I usually don't pay attention to the openers and had even kicked around going much later so I could get a quick nap in. But with parking being what it is down there, I figured I might as well go down and try to get a decent spot, and luckily I landed the perfect one.
So the two openers were Ultrabomb and Defiant. Ultrabomb had Greg Norton (former bassist of Husker Du) on bass and some vocals. They covered at least three Husker Du songs, although they butchered one of them. Looking around the crowd when they were covering "Don't Want To Know If You're Lonely", there was this look like "how don't they know this?" Half of the vocals were missing and it seemed like legit confusion on going from verse to chorus. Defiant had members from Offspring, Smash Mouth, a band that I'm blanking on, and the lead singer from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Halfway through the set, I had somebody come over and say "you know who the Bosstones are?" Yeah, I'm middle aged just like 90% of the crowd in there. Who doesn't know the Bosstones? "Well that's their lead singer up there." He didn't even have to say the second part. As soon as he said Bosstones, the lightbulb went on. Not sure why this dude came over to tell me this. I didn't think I looked that confused while watching them.

me first and the gimmie gimmies - fun fact, they got booed at Skyblast after a pirates game circa 2006ish. Good times

The last time that they were here, I want to say that Spike mentioned that it was their first show back here since Skyblast, but I thought they played The Rex prior to COVID.
Or maybe the show was scheduled and got cancelled due to COVID.
My early 2020's timeline is awful thanks to everything being closed down.

The last thing we did in the Before Times was The Struts in concert at House Of Blues in Anaheim (on Leap Day) and Disneyland the next day. Two weeks later - Friday March 13, 2020 - was the day all the shutdowns went into gear here, "two weeks to flatten the curve".

This is right down the street from me. I hate fests but that's a solid lineup.

I'm old. I only recognize two of those names but couldn't name a song from either.

Figured you'd be a big Yung Gravy fan.

It’s a hell of a lineup for a Pittsburgh fest. Killers, SZA, Melanie Martinez are headlining this year’s Lollapalooza. I’d be really interested in seeing St Vincent. I saw her just after her debut album came out in 2007 at a tiny bar in Athens Oh. It’d be fun to see her now that she’s become this huge act. Killers would be cool. Feeble Little Horse is a local band but they’re great. And let’s not pretend that Juvenile wouldn’t be fun at ****.
I’m not going because I hate fests and $250 for a 2 day GA ticket is too much but for a brand new festival in Pittsburgh, it’s a surprisingly good lineup.

Yeah it’s nice for Pittsburgh to get a fest but I know Wiz on that poster and maybe one other artist.

This might be more of a sign of yinz being old than the lineup being bad. Side note: I had no idea Girl Talk was from Pittsburgh.
dodint's Thread of Concerts and Public Events
Same, and also didn't realize Girl Talk was still a thing. I feel like they peaked in the 2010 mash-up craze

I think it’s partly me being old and also just not being into any of that type of music.

Same really aside from the few I highlighted. You might dig Feeble Little Horse.skullman80 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 7:13 pm I think it’s partly me being old and also just not being into any of that type of music.

Has nothing to do with age, and all to do with the type of music.skullman80 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 7:13 pm I think it’s partly me being old and also just not being into any of that type of music.
