I haven't been to a show there in decades, and the traffic is the #1 reason why. Plus the fact that so many of the people who comprise that traffic are completely drunk or high when leaving the venue. The last show I went to I remember watching a guy chug down the remainder of a bottle of whiskey, toss the empty bottle on the ground, and then hop in his car and drive away. That was the "never again" moment for me.

You don’t have to show your ticket to get into the lot so apparently a bunch of people without tickets just came to tailgate. That filled the lot up and caused a lot of the traffic. Also the fact that there’s really only one way in and out. Starlake is **** horrible.

Starlake is the worst and I will never go there for any reason unless like Metallica was doing a farewell tour and they for some reason picked that **** venue.

It truly sucks that it's more or less the only outdoor venue for bigger shows, but not quite "sell out Heinz Field" shows.
Stage AE is too small. The Pete and PPG are options but usually summer tours = outdoor shows.

It’s fine just arrive 5 hours before the show and leave a half hour before it ends.

@Freddy Rumsen went to the Dead & Co show in Charlotte. Good setlist, too. I hope he enjoyed it.

IIRC I feel like this happens with Starlake every year.

We need to get Kenny Chesney to Starlake to get the full experience all in one place.

The traffic situation combined with that crowd would cause a riot.
Maybe it might lead to change... probably not though

I experienced similar issues seeing Phish at Starlake in the late 90s. A very large contingent in the parking lots were just there to sell their drugs, food, body, bootleg tapes, whatever so they could continue existing as a nomad and watching Phish shows. The Deadheads are a similar lot, so not surprised to hear this at all.

Oh yeah, nothing has changed there. They have a rather large shakedown street area shows which is great, but that's about it for star lake. Apparently they oversold Tix to the show last night as well and had cops walking around the grass with flashlights handing out citations. I think I saw over 10,000 people missed the first set because of traffic. What a **** holeI experienced similar issues seeing Phish at Starlake in the late 90s. Citations for smoking weed at a Dead show?

I wouldn't go to star lake in the first place, but this is pretty good. I got Billy strings in Cleveland next week, hopefully they let people be there

Tried to get Matt Rife tickets today during the pre-sale for his shows (two) next year at the Benedum....did not go well.

Imagine paying $200 for a concert ticket, sitting in traffic for 5 hours, missing half the show and then getting a citation for smoking some weed.

Thank god those cops were there making sure we’re safe.https://www.reddit.com/r/deadandcompany ... are_buttonCitations for smoking weed at a Dead show?

I mean, it's sort of like a DUI checkpoint/speed trap downstream from a firehall wedding. The lowest hanging of quota-filling fruit.

It's illegal to do that so... Be mad at the state government for not legalizing it.
Thank god those cops were there making sure we’re safe.
PS Not a fan of whiny hippies complaining that they can't smoke dope everywhere.

Banning weed at a Phish/Dead concert is like banning beer at a Steeler game. Not going to end well.

That’s a bad take, especially considering it’s a Dead concert. It's illegal to do that so... Be mad at the state government for not legalizing it.

Always looking to borrow "that groovy glass pan" or a picnic table, etc.

I'm not arguing hippies being annoying. I'm sure hippies in the 80s were annoying. I'm saying citing folks at a Dead concert for smoking weed is dumb as hell.
As an aside, Starlake is one of the few venues where I'm actually aware of just how many people are going to be driving home drunk after the show. People get **** hammered in the lawn. I'd argue that those hero cops would be better used patrolling the parking lot and 22 after the show stopping drunk drivers. People getting stoned and listening to the Grateful **** Dead aren't hurting anybody.

Some of them were actually 60's hippies and were part of the Rainbow Gathering. The oldest one fled the country when he was implicated in some big hash deal.I'm not arguing hippies being annoying. I've always appreciated Freddy's intersection of music tastes and evangelical Presbyterianism.@Freddy Rumsen went to the Dead & Co show in Charlotte. Good setlist, too. I hope he enjoyed it.
