All this yammering about Trace this and Trace that. He did plenty. How about the GD defense giving up 400+ yards to that dope? No one in that secondary has any f’ing clue how to cover a decent receiver. No locating the ball, no tackling, zero safety help. For all the ‘show me the grill’ BS that Marcus Allen wants to pull, he sure as hell can’t make a play in the passing game. And thanks for the penalty, you dumbass. Really pathetic how bad that back 7 is.

That roughing penalty was pure idiocy. Whatever small chance they had of hanging in to get a win and stay in the hunt went by the boards right there.

I agree. For as amazing as the defense was looked for the first half dozen games, they have been horribly exposed in the last two. HUGE opportunity lost today. That roughing penalty was pure idiocy. I saw this last night and thought that's what he was doing, but wasn't sure. Franklin is a great American.

That said, really wish they would give the ball to Barkley more. I understand all the throwing early with all the success they were having, and they still had it at times after the half, but you give your best talent on offense the ball more. He broke a 36 yd run and very easily could’ve broke another had he had more carries.

Maybe I'm just imagining it, but they looked so creative at times vs. Michigan. I barely saw any of that vs OSU or MSU. Seemed like every drive vs Michigan there was something I hadn't seen before from the offense.

Northwestern gave the blue print of how to bottle up Barkley...bring middle pressure to disrupt the read option exchange and keep the ends wide to prevent bounce out lanes. The read option is a slow developing play,so they attacked it instead of waiting for it. With 2 weeks to get ready for Michigan, Moorhead came up with subtle wrinkles to attack that aggressive D. Direct snaps to Barkley...quick pitches instead of the reads...quick throws to the flat...quick throws over the middle. It kept the Michigan D off balance and prevented the all out ears pinned back assault on our backfield.Maybe I'm just imagining it, but they looked so creative at times vs. Michigan. Evidently, they forgot or something...cause the offense against OSU and MSU looked exactly like the offense that struggled against Northwestern and Iowa. Stupid.
Trace Mcsorley is an okay college QB...but his limitations prevent him from taking advantage of the openings in the D when they are focused on Barkley. He's short, which I think is why he doesn't look to hit short, quick, shallow passes, but rather looks downfield. He's surprisingly inaccurate when on the move...like really inaccurate. Overthrow after overthrow. Tied to both of those...he holds the ball way too long by not taking the quick throws/check downs. That puts him on the move...where it's inaccuracy city.
The D was a huge letdown the last couple weeks. I think OSU put their weeknesses on tape. I also think that they rely on speed and athleticism, both of which were severely neutered by the conditions yesterday.
In all, you have the best football player in college football. Figure out how to get him the ball in space...not how to make him the greatest decoy ever.
So frustrated.

Spot on, @genoscoif
I had said it earlier in the year that teams will figure out that a middle blitz will cut down on the RPO. Akron, Pitt, even Georgia St had success doing it but just didn’t have the consistency nor the athletes to sustain it throughout the game. They need to be better about getting Barkley in space but the problem is the o-line can’t freakin block anyone to let him get outside.
But again, my beef is with the defense. In their last 3 losses, the offense has scored enough. The defense, especially the secondary, has been beyond pathetic.
