2017-2018 Penn State Football thread

Postby Beveridge » Mon Nov 06, 2017 9:37 am

That's some tinfoil hat reaching commentary if you ask me. I'd say the same for any coach.

I would hope all coaches teach this to their players (they don't, I get that), but it's a football game. You should win or lose "with dignity" to take his quote.

Seems silly to bash someone for having a poor game plan, but smart enough to have either a back-up plan or to think of this on the spot when there's a million things going on to be concerned with.

It's the perfect comment for talk radio, however.

I guess if Franklin brought it up on his own in the presser following the game, it might smell fishy, but I'm guessing a reporter asked him why he was doing that?

He shouldn't get extra credit for doing it either, however. He did his job. It's like celebrating when you make a tackle or a catch.

That's talk radio for, I have to come up with a hot take on why the team lost a close game on the road with a random weather delay in it. Nobody is mad at the coach so I'm not going to have any caller, let's manufacture something.

I'm only pissed that this more than likely cements OSU back in the Big 10 title game.

Hey Koa, if we lose today I want you to wander all dejected off the field towards the locker room. Don't shake anyone's hand. Don't ask me why. Got it?

I figured as much - Poni was on for Dunturd this morning and I caught 5 minutes of his hot take, and Miller melting down saying the handshake thing was staged.

It was premeditated? lolololol

Yes, he pre-planned losing and having a player run off the field and him chase him down to make him shake the opponent's hand. ALL PART OF THE PLAN!

I think Miller's take was probably the more level-headed even if he believed it was staged. It seemed weird that they just lost a game like that, and the first thing Franklin does is run after a player and thumps his chest about sportsmanship after he seemingly didn't care about sportsmanship when he made the Pitt/Akron comment.

Yesterday's hot take by Kevin Gorman was "Do pitt fans enjoy penn state losses more than they enjoy pitt wins?"

UPS was ranked #2 in the country and had a 15 point lead going into the fourth quarter and an 11 point lead with 5 and a half minutes left. They lost, but they still had a shot for the CFP. Then they shart the bed against a good but not gr8 Michigan State team, and James from state college talks about how the team was distracted in the post game conference.

So they went from #2 in the AP to out of the CFP talk in the span of two weeks. Instead of being outraged, the media seems to be collectively shrugging this off. Why the hell aren't any penn state fans pissed off by this? Why isn't the media taking james from state college to task for all of his "distractions" comments. Why isn't anyone bashing the o-line, the o-coordinator, or barkley for his anemic output for most of the past two games?

If pitt somehow managed to get to #2 in the polls and proceeded to fart it away in such a short period of time, it would be mass chaos. Instead, we get topics like "did the coach stage a sportsmanship teaching moment to take attention away from the game" topic. And a topic on pitt fans. What the hell?

Also Kenny, I have a ton of FB friends that went to PSU that post stuff over and over about PSU being great, but when they lose, I honestly don't see anything until their next big win.

I’m plenty pissed off about it because this was a game that shouldn’t have been lost. I’ve railed plenty about it but my issue is with the defense, not the offense. Is the o-line questionable? Yes. Should Moorhead do more to get his best player in space instead of continually running him into blitzes? Yes. Will I ever bash Barkley? Hell no, it’s not him at all. Every team had the blueprint to stop the RPO but OSU and MSU had the D-line talent to pull it off. Adjustments should have been made and they haven’t. But if you score 38 against OSU and 24 against an offensively-challenged-at times MSU team (did you see that NW game?), it should be enough.

But that’s the ‘fun’ part about expectations and why it’s the dirtiest word in the dictionary.

As for the whole sportsmanship debate, stop it. This is an example of why local sports talk radio is terrible. Win with class, lose with class. Pitt fans can still be butthurt about the Akron comment, get over it. Rivalries don’t lend themselves to PC garbage.

I am, but my Aunts/Uncles/Cousins etc are all from around Allentown. So I have plenty of reasons to stay abreast of UPS, and I was raised going to games at the Big House so I also despise OSU...and I did some undergrad at UIUC...the B1G runs deep in my family.

you should get that looked at by your medical professional before it worsens, and you start punting from the opponent's 34 on 4th and 2.

Win or lose, I believe the next straight up Penn State football x’s and o’s segment I hear on Pittsburgh sports radio will be the first.

But ZOMG Coach Nardz tweeted #H2P after the loss to OSU gets one.

That product does not exist outside of the Steelers, and even then its only when they do guest spots. None of the FAN hosts can do any of that for Pitt, UPS, UWV, Steelers, whoever.

Oh I wasn't saying it wasn't, was just discussing the point where it seems nobody is outraged by this.

Franklin could come in handy, the next time I encounter a rude waiter: just have him bust through the front door and have a chat about common courtesy.
