Maybe... I'd have to actually look it up, but I believe if PSU beats MSU next weekend, and OSU loses to MSU, Penn State would be in the B1G championship assuming they win out from there. Is the basics here ups needs osu to lose two games to make the playoff?

Oh sh*t... didn't realize MSU lost yesterday. Nevermind. Yes, two losses are needed.

In other words: we're f*cked.

Maybe there's something that a CFB regular gets that I as a tourist do not, but a 1-point road loss to a top-ten team doesn't really get me bent. Granted the play calling from the sidelines and the decision making by players on the field left a lot be desired, but I don't see this game as some sort of indictment.

The L last night more or less locks us out of playoff contention. In a vacuum a 1-point road loss to a top-ten team isn't anything to lose sleep over. Looking at the season and what could have been, the loss is bigger. I'm certainly not calling for Franklin's head like some others, but this pretty much torpedoes a potentially great season.Maybe there's something that a CFB regular gets that I as a tourist do not, but a 1-point road loss to a top-ten team doesn't really get me bent. Were a one loss, non conference champion. That got OSU into the big show last year.

And them getting beat down is a good reason not to make that same mistake again this year.

Not to be a Pitt homer but I don't see how PSU is a top 4 team at this point, at least in the playoff committee rankings. They place a big emphasis on who you've beaten and frankly at this point PSU hasn't beaten anyone of note. Michigan is an okay win but nothing like Clemson vs Auburn or at VT. I'd guess they'll be in the 7-8 range.
Fortunately, they don't make their decisions until December 3. All of this silliness that they're promoting for Tuesday night is just to fool sponsors into buying ad time.

Fun stat (not really):
Prior to 2016, number of times PSU scored 38 or more in a game and lost -- 0
Since 2016, number of times PSU scored 38 or more in a game and lost -- 3

I still contend that was all taken out of context.

Has your opinion changed? What evidence do we have that OSU is good? Not only that, but good enough to be a 6.5 point favorite? I get that Penn State hasn't shown much this year other than a gutsy win in Kinnick and defeating a pretty obviously not very good Michigan... That said OSU got pounded by Oklahoma and have played cupcakes other than that. I have no doubt they're a great team, but there's just not a ton of evidence to show it to me.

Not quite. It also took Mississippi St beating #4 Texas AM, Pitt beating #2 Clemson, Iowa beating #3 Michigan, and Houston beating #5 Louisville AFTER the OSU loss. Were a one loss, non conference champion. That got OSU into the big show last year.
Penn State was also unranked going into the game, if I'm reading this correctly.
Completely different set of circumstances.

Prior to the game, there wasn't much evidence to support them being a 6.5 point favorite. After the game, I'm not so sure there's enough evidence to support them being a 6.5 point favorite. So in that respect, no.Has your opinion changed? What evidence do we have that OSU is good? Not only that, but good enough to be a 6.5 point favorite? In the respect of is OSU the better team... I think it's obvious they're a better team than PSU. And they're likely the best team in the B1G.

PSU needs to win out and have either OSU lose 2 Big 10 games, or have OSU win out and beat Wisconsin, and have ND, Clemson, and Miami lose.

I too thought that was lame but it's impossible for me to say that now without just sounding bitterI enjoyed seeing OSU fans rush the field when they were a 6.5 point favorite.
I'm pretty much over last night...I really hope the coaching staff learned a lesson, but at the end of the day, Ohio State was clearly the better team. The staff was gifted a TON of opportunities, and they failed in that respect.

They will play in the SEC title game, but I don't think for a second the loser will end up outside the Top 4 (and they shouldn't)Not sure if there will be more or less drama with Bama and Georgia basically having two spots wrapped up, unless one of them blows one. Which can always happen

And you're right. 7.Not to be a Pitt homer but I don't see how PSU is a top 4 team at this point, at least in the playoff committee rankings. I'd guess they'll be in the 7-8 range. It was fun while it lasted. I feel for the kids. "Gutted" isn't a strong enough word for how they must feel. That was a really fun game. I'm ok with a one point loss on the road despite the way it went.
I'd like to think that, all things considered (including the fact that they were 6/6.5 underdogs on the road), PSU won't fall below 4th, but I won't hold my breath.
OSU's loss being nonconference hurts us in the B1G.
Last year was last year, but #2 OSU lost on the road to unranked PSU and dropped only to 6th. So I was attempting to calibrate from that. Too simplistic, no dice.

That Ohio State result makes this even more of a must win game. Chance to win the B10 is back again.
