Any recommendations for good places to watch a game downtown State College? I'll be in town for the Pitt game. No tickets, but I do have a parking pass. We're going to tailgate then walk to a bar to watch the game. I know there are a ton of options and it will be on everywhere. I'm looking for decent food, easy to view tvs, and a fun atmosphere. Champs downtown seems like a logical choice but I'd like to have a few options in case it's way too jammed.

They've renovated the downtown Champs, and I have yet to be there, but I've walked by and it looks awesome. TVs are very easy to see no matter where you're at. Other options that have a decent balance of TVs and just a good atmosphere are Pickles, Mad Mex, The Deli (ZBar), Cafe 210. Some other spots that don't have quite the amount of TVs are Local Whiskey and Liberty Craft House.

There's a new place that, if I had to guess, is a little too pricey for undergrads called Federal Taphouse. I think there's 100 beers on tap and they have good TV placement as well.

You may want to get to a bar at least an hour before the game begins if not sooner. The bars fill up fast on game days.

It looks like it closed a while ago  I Googled it and found this:

The Sports Cafe & Grille finally reopened Thursday evening to the disdain of former Nittany Lion football player LaVar Arrington.

According to the Daily Collegian, Arrington said he has "nothing to do with that place," putting to rest rumors that he might be behind the bar's reopening.

Arrington was quoted as saying, "I hope the plague falls upon the Sports Cafe. I hope it's rat infested. Frickin' roach infested."

So it's 10-2 in the regular season.

All told I think that's a fair and plenty positive follow-up to the 2016 campaign. Penn State is going to be very good, even with some of its questions, but in the department of picking the four best teams in the nation, it's hard to see the hair-splitting going the Nittany Lions' way. Somewhere during the season the offense won't quite be able to save the defense, and somewhere in there the bounces won't go Penn State's way.

Of course, this is August, and sometimes all it takes is an overtime win and a blocked field goal to change everyone's tune for the better.

Anything better than 10-2 means a few things. Barkley stays healthy, Penn State's top two tacklers are linemen or linebackers, the Nittany Lions double their interception count from 2016 and the offensive line is as good as advertised.
10-2 is probably my best guess as well. I'd say that 12-0 isn't out of the question (but unlikely) and neither is 8-4 (again, unlikely, but we'll see).

This is coming from someone who despises the word 'expectations'.

To me, anything short of a 1-loss season will be a disappointment...with that 1 loss coming at Columbus. Of course, there could be injuries that rear up and aggravate the circumstances but a relatively healthy season should equal another run similar to last season. Yeah, they won't sneak up on anyone this time, that's a given. But if I'm a defensive coordinator and I'm trying to figure out how to attack the PSU offense, I don't know where to go. Do I try to gum up the line of scrimmage to stop Barkley? Well, that might leave the receivers to run wild. Do I try and stop the passing attack? Yeah, sure, let's allow a Heisman Trophy candidate to gallop all over the field. And oh by the way, it's not just Barkley, Hamilton, McSorley, and Gesicki. It's going to be Sanders and Robinson and Juwan and Charles and Thompkins and a ton of other speedy talent that we haven't seen in State College really ever. Defensively, the front 7 is going to be a giant question mark in certain places but I believe by the time they get to the Iowa game, they'll be pretty gelled...provided the injury bug is minimal.

An entire thread dedicated to the Lions... wow. Pinch me, I'm dreaming. I swear the Penguins' HFboards is full of Pitt/O$U losers.

I can't remember the last season I was this excited as I am. Heading up to State College in 2 days for the opener. Look forward to seeing everyone, we are.

Welcome! Be aware, the Pitt Clique will relentlessly ridicule you, but it's all in good fun. Except @NAN... he's never fun.

Awww. I haven't been back to State College in a long while and this makes me sad. Their 25 cent cheeseburgers and 10 cent hotdogs were actually pretty decent. Kept many a hungry students full over the long winters. The $1.00 Amber Boch Talls were nice too. So many memories at that place. It was so close to the mechanical engineering building so we were always around that area.

All in good fun, just like 9/9 will be.

Anyone else ever dream about games sometimes? Weird and I don't know why but last night dreamt we had a 23-0 lead early on... here's hoping. The only way they could make it interesting is if their QB doesn't suck.

When you beat us, I'm just going to use the excuse that all the Pitt players were hurt or suspended.
