Not upset to see Conklin gone. The DBs and LBs made progress this year but there were times it seemed like he was in over his head in terms of the way the defense was executed. Granted, some of that was due to injuries/suspensions but the comments by Gundy after the OK State game really stuck with me.

Some initial talk on PL said they may look at Scott Shafer, former Syracuse head coach and prior to that, DC at Syracuse, Michigan and Stanford. He spent 2017 as the DC at Middle Tennessee St. after he was replaced by Dino Babers at Syracuse.

Shafer wouldn't be a bad hire at all.

Some suggest they may also look to promote Charlie Partridge to DC.

I was talking with someone at Pitt the other day about Randy Waldrum taking over as women's soccer coach.

They told me "Those are the kind of hires people can expect from now on. We want to bring winners here."

Pitt mode fully engaged on Twitter: people chattering about wanting Tom Bradley and other Pitt people ridiculing them.

i surprised to learn that scrap is a mere 61 years old

i wouldnt hate it

i also wouldnt hate wanny to be honest. dude genuinely loves the school, and if he wants to coach, DC at his alma mater and responsible for western PA recruiting is perfect

this would never happen because why would someone at his age and his current job as the lead studio analyst/lead public UPS/UWV troll is way cushier and probably pays the same

nonetheless, WANNY FOR DC

Defensive end Kaezon Pugh, defensive tackle Kam Carter, cornerback Malik Henderson and linebacker Henry Miller will not be returning to the team next season, various sources have told Panther-Lair.com.
Pugh and Miller were highly recruited but neither of them could get on the field. Carter is the guy from Last Chance U who was clearly behind 4 or 5 other guys on the interior line spots, with some younger high end talent right behind him like Twyman.

They are definitely going to wind up at 20+ recruits now, which isn't the worst thing. That's how major programs are supposed to work; can't get on the field, you get recruited over, like the two jamokes from ups that left a couple weeks back that were four stars.

Henderson isn't surprising. He had fallen behind a number of other DBs on the depth chart even before he got hurt. I think the writing was on the wall when true freshmen like Pinnock and Mathis started getting reps in games ahead of him.

There have been rumors about Pugh transferring out for a month or so now, so I'm not surprised. That said, I was really hoping this would have worked out for him because he seemed to really enjoy being a Panther. I'll be interested to see where he ends up.

Kam Carter's departure doesn't surprise me because Watts and Camp had passed him on the depth chart, and I started to wonder if something was going on when they started really chasing after Tyler Bentley.

Henry Miller's departure honestly surprises me. He seemed tailor-made for a move from S to LB. Pitt has decent experienced depth at LB next year (Zeise, Idowu, Brightwell, Wirginis, Pine, Reynolds), but I thought Miller had the pedigree to eventually get on the field.

After all the departures plus the addition of Taysir Mack from UI, Peak says they'll have room to add at least three more players to this class. He said more attrition is expected, so I guess we'll see.

I always tried to pay attention to carter when he was on the field bc of his ties to last chance u. one common theme of his time on the field was him getting blasted by his blocker. there was one game where camp or watts was hurt and someone else on the interior was dinged up. Wheeler (not weaver) of central catholic looked better in his time during that game than carter looked all year, and that was wheelers only real playing time all year. watts/roy/camp/wheeler/twyman (who redshirted) should be fine in the middle next year.
