I'm intrigued by the Bates hiring. From a coaching standpoint, Northwestern always struck me as a team that was fairly well-coached under Fitzgerald, even if the results don't always show it on the field. It's not easy to recruit there and it's not easy to win there because of the admission standards.

I wonder if there was some familiarity there with Bates and Narduzzi. Bates would have been at Northwestern through Narduzzi's tenure at MSU.

I hope the recruiting reputation is accurate because getting a foot in the door in Texas would be huge. Partridge has great connections in Florida and those have already started to pay off. If Bates can be to Texas what Partridge is to Florida, I'm on board with this. Florida, Texas and Georgia seem to have become the three most fertile recruiting areas for this generation, and it's nice to see this coaching staff ramping up their efforts to target those areas.

For those interested in following this sort of thing, courtesy of PL...

Kaezon Pugh transferred to Howard Univ. Sounds like he may get a shot at RB. Best of luck to him. Howard is a terrific school and a solid FCS program.

Kam Carter transferred to Duquesne.

Thomas MacVittie transferred to Mesa CC.

- Good for Pugh. I would have moved him from LB to RB/FB before I moved him to defensive end.

- Weird transfer for Carter. If he was going to transfer that far down I would have expected him to transfer somewhere closer to home.

- I guess TMac wants to play a year of JUCO and then transfer somewhere of note instead of immediately transferring down. Mesa doesn’t produce a ton of D1 players, but there’s always a chance.

The worst part about this stillers Jacksonville game is that pitt’s Offensive brain trust is going to see all these screen passes on 3rd and long that work for the jags and think “see! It works for them it can work for us!”

Maddox and Weah have apparently been impressive during practice for the East/West Shrine Game.

This is going to drive DD nuts, but that schedule is brutal. 7-5 would good, 8-4 very good with that schedule. 6-6 would not surprise me. I dont think they will have the breakthrough we're looking for until 2019, which should further infuriate DD since I am giving the Nard Dog kind a pass for 18 before any games have been played.

Might try to attend either the Syracuse or Duke game. After living in NC for so long I really hate Duke so that might be the ticket.

That is a tough schedule. 7-5 I'd be happy. 8-4 I'd be really happy. Kenny Pickett is the savior though.. so 12-0 H2P!

Get rid of ND and BYU and you've got the lineup for the 4 super conferences.
At this point, I don't care how they get parsed out....Just make it happen.
