Don't know how real that proposal is but that interchange needs help. I'd love to be able to go 910 to 79 from my house instead of the turnpike, but that intersection adds a lot of headache.

My RR tire blew out yesterday afternoon on the very busy 30 bypass in Downingtown--I was going about 65. What's interesting is that I heard the initial pop, but did not feel or notice anything different for a solid 4-5 seconds, to the point that I actually started to wonder if it wasn't me. The light came on and I could hear the tire after that.
Was able to limp it to a park and ride and get AAA to tow me out to our shop. I guess modern tires aren't as dangerous for high speed blowouts? I swear when I was a kid I thought a blowout at that speed meant spinning out at a minimum.

The only way you'll really spin out, even with a catastrophic failure of tire integrity, is if you were already at the limit of adhesion in a cornering maneuver. Otherwise it just collapses down and you maintain your forward momentum. Might want to check if that wheel is still round.
My sister called me yesterday, also on Rt. 30 but in Irwin. "My sidewall has a big bubble on it, can I get safely to Latrobe?" I advised her it's not a safe condition, but if she treats it like an idiot spare (stay under 55) it will probably make it. She made it, so that's cool. I have her that advice knowing that even if the tire exploded off the rim she's not going to do much except drift to the breakdown shoulder.

I recall back during the whole Ford Explorer / Firestone Tire debacle watching a video where someone rigged up a system for a representative Ford Explorer where they could deflate a tire instantly in order to simulate one of the tires delaminating or blowing out. The conclusion was that it barely had any impact on stability, so the people who had been crashing their Explorers after a tire went down most likely did so because they were panicked by the failure and didn't respond appropriately.
Aha, found the video. It was Car and Driver:

My grandpap sold Firestone tires at that time and I remember him buying an Explorer like the one in the video to prove to people that Firestone tires were not a bad purchase.I recall back during the whole Ford Explorer / Firestone Tire debacle watching a video where someone rigged up a system for a representative Ford Explorer where they could deflate a tire instantly in order to simulate one of the tires delaminating or blowing out. Hopefully it fixes the Brandt School Road but I fear it's just pushing it down to the Rochester Road side lol, but seeing a larger runway to merge and exit onto that exit is a godsend. I take my kids to that daycare, and that light system at Brandt School is straight trash.this is a pretty good solution

its a real mess and casues some significant issues on 79 as well. very unsafe. if the widen the area to the west of brandt school and an extra lane, this all goes away.

Absolutely, when I used to drive to and from work - and had to pick my son up, there were nights it was traffic all the way back to the 79/279 merge. Awful awful traffic.

The Charles Anderson Memorial Bridge sure is **** up my commute.

I'm glad they're doing something about that bridge though. I would drive it whenever I go into the office because I didn't want to chance hitting every red light on Forbes (which happened to me this morning, not fun).
Always dadhole clenching driving over it.

For sure - I've lived here for going on 15 years. It's crazy how much we've grown even in that time, Mccandless crossing didn't exist (it was still a crap ballfield and woods), and there's like 4-5 more housing developments that were fields around that area. It's gotten way bigger, really quickly relatively.

i guess having to go 2nd ave or the parkway is slightly better than plunging to my death, but not much.I'm glad they're doing something about that bridge though. I grew up not too far from there and would take that exit off 79 occasionally. My Dad was also a member of the Millvale Sportsmen's Club so I spent a lot of time in the area. I don't ever remember there being a traffic issue. It was mostly fields outside of the area around T-Bones, which is surprisingly still there.

I was driving to Stony Brook yesterday, and almost ran over a woman that was walking the wrong way against traffic on the Northern State Parkway aggressively gesturing at cars. Flow of traffic was about 65 and she was weaving up the center line. That rattled me a lot.
I called the police, several had already reported her.

Did a bunch of companies force people back into the office starting May 1? Traffic has been a dodint for the past week, almost pre-pandemic levels.

During the Christmas holidays, people put out lights and decorations to celebrate the season. During April and May, the entire city of Pittsburgh puts out orange cones and barrels to celebrate the season.Did a bunch of companies force people back into the office starting May 1?
