Traffic Copter

Postby BigMck » Thu Feb 09, 2017 1:04 am

I live way up in north Palm Beach County and work in Boca Raton, FL. I know, tough life shut up. My traffic though is totally insane. I can have a great day where I am home in 35 minutes or an absolute bear of a 90 minute commute. It all depends on what version of Florida Man shows up.
Outside of of the city, we fight time in traffic. My time to the first customer was 35 minutes. Time from there to my office,? Hour Thirty. Car upside down, second car on the side, third car facing the wrong way. High end cars driven by those that do not understand 0 - 80 is flat track zero traffic, is different than 80 - being upside down and **** up all those behind do not care if you survived. Count BMW, Mercedes, Audi. All sheet metal.

That was the least amount of congestion I've yet had on the parkway approaching the squirrel hill tunnel. Likely because all the helicopter mommys are home today rather than staring vapidly at their kids in the rear view of their minivan instead of paying attention to the flow of traffic.

However, people were still reflexively slowing down about a mile ahead of the Swissvale exit. This is sad, because it signals that complete lack of hope that there will ever be an even flowing morning commute from that direction. Even if there is no reason to stop, dumbass yinzers will do so out of muscle memory.

I'm going to pad whatever offer I put on a house this weekend by 5% just to ensure I never have to go through that tube of suck ever again.

*shudder*

Drove my car there ONE TIME. It died. Bad juju.

When I go to my friends house in Allison Park I just take the turnpike via 8. Can't imagine I wouldn't do that if the tunnel is congested. Which it always is.

I also have friends that live in North Baldwin, though, so I'm probably arsed one way or another eventually.

Kenny the kangaroo's dad has commuted 25 miles from the eastern suburbs, through the tunnel, and into town since 1986. he hasn't whined as much about his commute in the past 10 years as dodinit has whined in this thread. congrats.

I created the thread explicitly to whine about the tunnel, so it's not that surprising.

I see it as a bigger issue, a symptom of our failure as a society to rise to anything close to our potential. A direct commentary on our shortcomings as a species.

Sometimes a tunnel isn't just a tunnel.

my commute every day. Sometimes there are issues on 22 going to the turnpike, but I just fly through the middle lane and merge at the last second. Yeah, I'm that jackwagon.

You're the correct one, you're fully utilizing the roadway.

I made the bus every day this week, so more naps than rage. Just wanted to drop some knowledge:
Kenny the kangaroo's dad has commuted 25 miles from the eastern suburbs, through the tunnel, and into town since 1986. he hasn't whined as much about his commute in the past 10 years as dodinit has whined in this thread. congrats.
Empirical data showing modern commutes are worse than before.
The Census’s 2015 American Community Survey data, released last fall, show that the average American commute crept up to 26.4 minutes in 2015, or about 24 seconds longer than the previous year. Multiply it all out — 24 seconds per commute, twice a day, five days a week, 50 weeks a year — and in 2015 the typical American could expect to spend about three hours and twenty minutes longer getting to and from work than in 2014.
See, you're Dad had it good for a long while. Look at the burden I live with every day!

I drove for the first time in two weeks today. I went in kind of late though so the SH tunnel wasn't too bad. Earlier, when I got off of the turnpike at Monroeville the ramps leading into Monroeville were backed up in every direction. Never seen that before.

Stayed at work until 6:30pm last night so I could avoid traffic. Smooth sailing, all is well. Oh, wait, some dickbag's Suburban died in the far left lane about .25mi before the tunnel. Thanks.

When I was younger my uncle was a delivery driver for a Ford parts distributor. His route covered the Pittsburgh area, and his truck broke down in the Squirrel Hill tunnel once. In 1985 or whatever it was a $300 fine.

Took me an hour+ to get to work from 79N today. Someone wrecked on the dang bridge and it ended up closing two lanes.
