Somehow the traffic inbound on 279 is infinitely worse with the construction gone

Because, for the 3rd time in the past week, some idiots got in an accident. Everyone's gotta rubberneck.

That accident must have just happened as I was getting off Perrysville exit (which was supposed to be closed this week :?: ) to get the bus. Thank God the HOV lane is open.

You're right though - there's been an accident just about every day since the restrictions were lifted. How is that possible?

376 towards the squirrel hill tunnels was **** up this AM as well. Backed up well past Churchill. You know when this **** doesn't happen? When school is out. How is having public school in session such a traffic monster?

28 was slow but manageable today. I went in pretty late, almost 9am, so it was heavier than it should have been.

When are we getting jetpacks?

Speaking of this, they had it down to one lane on Saturday - I ended up spending an hour plus from perrysville down to the city.

I've been putting my destinations into GPS if I come into the city on the weekends for this very reason. Took me an hour a month ago at like 11AM, and since then, I've been routed via 65 a couple times and halved the time it would have taken me.

I use Google Maps every day. I know it must be bad when Google suggests taking the turnpike instead of 279.

Kind of unrelated but when I was coming home from St. Paul last month my EZPass worked in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio with no issue but it failed to register at the Cranberry high speed toll and the Exit 39 toll. Received two letters yesterday, requesting $2+$25 and $7+$25 for those tolls.

Supposedly I just write down my EZ Pass account number and they'll deduct it from my account and erase the fees, but it's still a hassle.

Terrible thing, was that I actually used Waze about 30 minutes before I left. So either it was fine and they shut it down, or Waze was talking crazy.

We received an $80 fee for missing the toll at the Monroeville exit coming home from vacation. We just had to contact them and send in our EZ Pass number. It was surprisingly painless.

Cool. The form said I could pay online but wasn't specific about whether I could contest online.

Google Maps has gotten me back dozens and dozens of hours of my life back. This morning, the 30 bypass outside of Philly was closed eastbound, which is one of my main thoroughfares to work. It's normally backed up for a good 10 minute delay or so in the morning, so you can imagine what the closing did to the arterials.

Using Google Maps, I took a detour far to the south, going back rural roads and taking the long way around to work. Twice I came up on an intersection which probably would have been good for at least a 5 minute delay, and a quick look at the map let me take a couple back roads around to bypass the town center. As it was, it took me 49 minutes to get to work, and it normally takes me 45. Thank God the majority of drivers just kind of go blindly on roads they are familiar with.

IMO Waze is even better (Google owns Waze too). I highly recommend it. If I'm driving, I have Waze running, even when I know exactly what route I'm taking.

If your plate number is on your account, you won't even get contacted.

I like Waze for the police warnings. I don't like Waze for going through parking lots and housing plans to save a few inches or 0.0001 seconds.

From childhood, you know that image of a square with a zig-zag line through it and the question of which was longer, the zig-zag or the two sides of the square? And they are the same... Waze is very good at consistently going with the zig-zag over the straight lines.
Instead of "In 1 mile make a left. In one mile you have reached your destination."
Waze typically "In .1 mile make a left, in .1 mile make a right, in .1 mile make a left, in .1 mile make a right, etc, etc"

But in saying that, Waze is the only GPS that I use. :?

My GPS is in my head. One of the few perks of being a road tech for five years - I know most of western PA like the back of my hand.

They will look up your plate number in their database and automatically just charge you for the tolls. They are assuming you are not an ezpass customer and contacting you for the toll plus fine.

But as I noted, the EZ Pass transponder worked fine all year up until that evening. I used it in three other states that afternoon and it worked fine.

They have a form (part D) just for people with transponders that didn't work. You fill in your account number and they deduct the cost of the toll (discounted to the EZ Pass rate) and remove the fine. It would be nice if they had done this on their own but I have to return these two pieces of paper.
