I saw a funny quip somewhere recently. Went along the lines of: Have enough strength in yourself, as much strength as the PA Turnpike has, to constantly work on self-improvement regardless of how it may affect others.

My commute has been Butler Valley to Monroeville the past 5 years since I've moved here. Been construction ever since, and will continue to be until at least 2023 I believe. It's one thing this pandemic did right, keeping me from that commute.

Honestly surprised this doesn't happen more frequently here, given how many bridges are in the city and how many of those bridges look like ****.

The collapse caused a large gas leak, which emitted a sound like a jet engine. Gas crews on the scene were able to shut off the gas, Pittsburgh Public Safety said.

I saw one picture that has a PAT bus on it while collapsed, and this one shows a few cars also.

KDKA reports no fatalities and 3 serious but non life threatening injuries. That's gotta be borderline miracle territory.

Good lord @ that photo.

In the comments I saw several construction workers saying they drove heavy loads over the bridge and it moved significantly on them.

Well the problem was they didn't build a second bridge under that bridge.

It was a very cool bridge. Probably one of the most underrated pieces of infrastructure in terms of coolness in the city. This is insane and scary.

My wife did/would drive across that bridge quite a bit when she was going to work in Shadyside. Scary stuff. She is at Presby today thankfully.

Went over that bridge plenty of times when I dated my wife back in the day. Have a friend/former coworker that lives a mile away. Said the collapse woke him up and could hear the gas leak

Last inspection on record was in 2017. Reaffirmation of the “Poor” status it was first given in 2011.

So what's the problem then? It was inspected!

In all seriousness, wild photos. I cannot believe no one was killed.

Similar story to the I-35 collapse. Much better outcome, though.

Port Authority initially said the bus driver and the two passengers onboard escaped without injury, but Chief Jones said two of those three people were among the 10 injured.

Later Friday morning, Mr. Brandolph clarified that one of the two passengers left the scene of the collapse and got on another bus. About two hours after the collapse, that person complained of injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Seriously? Hopefully not in a rush to get to work
