I think BRoeth already has a HoF resume, and that will only be bolstered if he gets to a fourth Superb Owl. Getting in will just be a matter of time.
That's all that matters...those Superb Owl rings.

We have the best owls, the very best, many people say they're superb. Believe us!

QB rating formula is definitely worth a look...seems almost random how that formula was put together...
It omits components -- like fumbles and rushing yards -- that would be valuable, and it doesn't adjust for the era, but its a decent tool that you can use since its been in place for 50 years to do a rough comparison. Focusing on pure yardage in this day and age is dumb, particularly when its without considering Eli's inaccuracy (comp %) and love of turnovers (INTs).
That's not quite what I meant...I meant the formula itself is just random, no? It's different in the NCAA, but yet the CFL uses the same formula as the NFL despite having different rules and a different field...

Rushing yards, like defense scoring in the NHL, can be sorted out and weighed appropriately...so I'm not too worried about that...it's just the formula in general is just odd to me even in terms of what it accounts for...

I am never going to unsee superb owl. I'm losing the battle with myself not to burst out laughing on the bus.
Same. It completely made my day, and I'm not sure what that says about me. Nothing superb, for sure.

Also, someone said that they would think the voters would be smarter than they are, if that was the case, Aikman wouldn't have made first-ballot - but his 3 SBs totally helped usher him in.
On pure stats alone, Aikman’s resume isn’t all that great. From 1992 through 1996, Aikman had a record of 56-19. In his seven other seasons, his record was 38-52. He also finished with a weak touchdown to interception ratio of 165 and 141 and it isn’t as if teams weren’t passing in the 1990s. As for where he ranks on the all-time passing list, he’s 34th right now and has already been passed by Aaron Rodgers and Matt Ryan.
Right. This is what I mean, it's a silly way to look at things in my opinion...though I acknowledge that the voters do look at it that way, which really takes a lot of starch out of what they do...

I'm not sure how you're using random here, but no, it isn't random generally. People are free to disagree on what the inputs are and how they are weighted, but there is a method to it. The NCAA's approach or the CFL's approach don't really have any relevance here. Its an attempt to distill QB perofrmance into a single metric, using specific inputs and league averages and different weighting.

League averages from when? 1970? I understand exactly what it is, but who decided that yards are worth X and not X + 0.1? Why does the formula not shift with age, do we now value things more or less in today's game. Considering forward passing didn't really become popularized or modernized until the 1980's, using a formula developed well before that (AIUI) seems a little odd...as in, maybe it's time to crack it open...and even better, start using other more advanced metrics in it perhaps...

But just to keep it square for players on an all-time scale, I'm sure it's ready to be altered in some regard to account for rule changes, era changes, etc. - then again, maybe not...

Thats the point I keep making about adjusting it for era, and why you see steadily creeping numbers over time. Football reference has an adjusted metric somewhere on the site that adjusts for era.

I'm not sure they ever released the formula for it either...

To me, Eli Manning shouldn't be in the HoF, but I'd give him about a 90% chance of getting in, for two main reasons:

1) Plays in New York
2) Both wins were against the Patriots.

He should get in just for making that ball stick to Tyree's head like that. What a throw.

I don't know the answer exactly but this is the bed you make when you give such huge gravity to a single win...you get these scenarios where Bradshaw, Aikman, E.Manning...God forbid they gave it to Marshawn Lynch, Russell Wilson as entering these all-time great discussions...that's a tough way to go...

Ben being a big moose (in a way the league has probably never seen) should help his bid

Power forwards always get the benefit of the doubt...Neely, Gillies, Lindros...

I'm thinking that will nudge Andrew Luck across that finish line if he needs it one day about 12-15 years from now...

Madden always says it's not a hall of fame. It's just a hall of very good / players that made an impact on the league.

If referring to hockey, yes, there's a number of players I could do without in there...but I'm a small room kind of guy...

The HoF would be a lot more fun if they voted someone out every year too.

Honestly I would think that's great. You could have one room for the hall - and another for the ones voted out.

I don't like that because it's just another excuse to **** on the history of the game...if anything, we need to embrace the history of the game more, not pretend like it didn't happen...

I worry that about 10 QBs from this generation are going to make the HOF, just like everyone that put on skates between 1979-1997 is in the HHOF...
