I finally have time to read again after the race to finish up my PhD early. I have about 20 books I have amassed over the past few months.

Starting with Shorefall, Robert Jackson Bennett. I absolutely loved the first book, Foundryside, in this series and this holds up. @eddy if you haven't already, you should check it out.
I've had his city of stairs from the divine city series on my queue for a while now, maybe I'll check that one out first, thanks!

I highly recommend Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. That and The Bear by Andrew Krivak were two of the best I've read this year and I'd bet that you'd really dig them both

:thumb: excellent, thanks!

City of Stairs was also good. The style of storytelling is different between those two series. So if you start one and it's not your thing, don't discredit the other.

Dune was a hell of a book. That ending was awesome, and I look forward to seeing how they film that in the new movie. Love how weird this was.
:thumb:

Do you plan to read all the Dune books, even the ones his son did? I may some day revisit them. Kinda want to watch the movie then reread the first book again.

I'll definitely give the next one a shot and see where it goes from there

Read nothing lasts forever. It was a fast mostly fun read. One of those rare instances where the movie (Die Hard) is sooooooo much better.

Nothing but blue skies had it's ups and downs. I wish it was more of the ups.

Reading Beneath the Rising by Premee Mohamed now

The only book/movie that comes to mind for me in this category is Shawshank

Brick and mortar store selling antiquated media. Hmmm. Wonder why they're struggling.

In some seriousness, when I was a kid my goal in retirement was going to be to own and operate a used bookstore. I realized about ten years ago that my dream probably wouldn't work out unless I was well off enough to fund it as a hobby. Which on my current trajectory won't be an option.

Yeah, I can't get it to load either. I guess that's good, as long as we remember to go back and try to order something later.

From an author I really enjoy reading who should be way more popular than he is.

When I was a kid my goal in retirement was going to be to own and operate a used bookstore by misusing government funds and lining my own pockets.

Some indies are doing pretty well during the pandemic, all things considered. I've bought all my books from my local indie and outside of pre-orders (amazon just makes it very easy) will only buy from them.

I've really given myself over to the convenience of Kindle. Every time I've moved the last 10 years or so I've been donating books to libraries and making my personal collection smaller.
Being able to read in bed at night with the light off to not disturb my wife has pushed me to digital.

Yup. I've always wanted to visit The Strand but this story is not what it appears. Yet another example of PPP money being misused.

I have seen the terrifying face to face. I do not flee in horror. But though I approach with courage, I know very well it is not the courage of faith.
