This is probably the most apt review of Ready Player One I've seen yet, on the heels of the trailer a couple of weeks ago.

http://theconcourse.deadspin.com/ready- ... 1797497066
That might seem like much for an adventure romp like Ready Player One, an entertaining bit of spun sugar that is so amiably unchallenging that it never even makes demands of itself. But direct any back at it, and you come up with nothing, an empty politics, characters as flat as Pong, an epic of nostalgia for things people bought that never wonders why it loves what it loves. As a body of work, it’s a hollowed-out and varnished cadaver, held together by tissue only skin-deep; a Humpty-Dumpty man ready to shatter when pierced by a single question.

Gentlemen's guide to Vice and Virtue (Mackenzi Lee) is probably the most fun I've had reading a book this year. The wit of the author is top notch.

To bad it's not really up the alley of any the people who frequent this thread.

Picked up Secret Agent by Brad Thor on a whim at the airport. Never read anything by him before.

Thoughts?

I read one of his earlier novels probably 20 years ago. It was one of his Navy SEAL series. I don't remember much other than it was absurd, and I never read another of his books.

His latest novel was enjoyed by Chris Christie during his infamous beach vacation last month.

It's a young adult historical fiction novel about a bisexual man in 1700s Europe who goes on a grand adventure with his best friend (who he is in love with). So, if you want gay romance and adventure, and discussions of race & female standing at the time, and privilege all wrapped into one delightful witty book - I recommend it.

But, this seems like my type of book and no one else's on the board

Brad Thor stepped in something last year (and got Glenn Beck suspended)...

Alrightythen.

That Beck interview was basically the same stuff that opposition political parties and philosophis say about every president they don't like.

And yet, here we still are.

Just write me a good story, Majambo.

Sweet Christmas.

Does he have a publisher? This has to be in multiple volumes, right?

Thanks for sharing...I am going to buy the softcover.

Also, F the "Top Reviewer" who gave it two stars because he doesn't like his Kindle version. Dude, do you realize you are only hurting the author that you just praised for two paragraphs? Schmuck.

I read that years ago, on Ocracoke IIRC. Great book, and I'd had no idea how close the U-boots operated to the coast and how dire the situation was in 42-43.

Just finished it. Enjoyable. Moved very quickly, though possibly too quickly in spots twss, but will check out others by him. Found the Harvath character intriguing to the point where I want to learn more about him.

I've been reading so many YA adventure books recently, that my mind is not prepared for the seriousness of "The Stone Sky" by NK Jemisin. The themes in the book are so much more intense. The first two books won the Hugo award (deservedly so), and I'm very excited to see the conclusion, but my brain is just not ready for it.
