The Heaviest Matter Of The Universe is still my favorite song of theirs, by far. Side note: the lead singer - who I've never actually seen a picture of before - looks like a French Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Thought it might be fun to share stories of how we discovered our favorite metal bands.

In the early 90s I had just started to really get into music and discovered metal thanks to the Black Album and MTV actually still playing videos (and Beavis and Butthead).

I was on a camping trip and my uncle who was a garbage man handed me this cassette that he found that he thought I might like.

It was a little album known as Live After Death. So I popped it into my walkman and was greeted with Churchill's speech and then they busted into Aces High. Pretty nice find. One of my favorite live albums to this day.

Maiden did not become my favorite band for a few years, but the seeds had been sown.

The first concert I ever attended was Maiden and Fear Factory at Metropol on the X Factor tour. Despite Bruce not being in the band at the time, that was one hell of a show and definitely a unique experience to see such a big band as Maiden in a small venue.

I think I've now seen Maiden 6 times, easily the most of any band. They never fail to deliver a great show.

I haven't posted a Jinjer vid in a while... so here is a one take of judgement and punishment on vocals. The smooth change from harsh to soft is incredible.

Guitar of the same song

It's weird seeing James without a guitar singing (minus the pyro incident), and while not anywhere near my favorite Metallica song... holy crap was this performance emotional. This was right before he went back to rehab you could almost see the pain on his face.

Source of the post minus the pyro incident
Speaking of, how awesome is it that Kirk's guitar tech took over rhythm guitar so that Metallica could continue that tour? Had to be the highlight of that dude's life.

For some older sounding thrash....the lead singer just passed a few weeks ago, and while I knew who these guys were, I really started digging into their catalog, and am said I never saw them live etc. Love this old school thrash style.

Kane, my man. You need to start listening to some of their older stuff working backwards. Abrahadabra is top to bottom just outstanding. This is still my go-to when I need some adrenaline, and probably my favorite Dimmu track.

If you like clean vocals, check out Death Cult Armageddon when ICS Vortex was still in the band. His vocals are top notch.

Testament was one of the few thrash bands I never really explored. Souls of Black is a good tune, though.
