I swear my dog was not high or drunk when this photo was taken...

That is a really cool looking dog, what kind is it?

It's been a good number of years since our cat rufus died and we've been starting to talk more and more about getting a new pet.
It would have to be a cat or a small dog. It's tough because we travel a lot on the weekends and I hate to be away with a pet at home.

Right now, we live vicariously through my folks spinone italiano (basically a real muppet).
I know BigMck mentioned he had ragdoll cats. I would love to get one of those or a main coone. Anyone have experience with either?

Someone asked earlier what kind of dog mine was, and outside of him being part Pomeranian I honestly don't know. The shelter we got him from wasn't sure either as he came in as a stray to them. I wish there was an easy way to find out.

I held her while she was given the injections and I bawled like a little baby. I know it's better than having her in pain but man, it really, really sucks. This is the only part of having pets that I hate.

I'm so sorry to hear this; you have my condolences.

What do yinz feed your pooches?
We used to feed them Science Diet, but then Lily had two knee surgeries and gained like 5 pounds (which is not good on a dog that should only weigh like 22-23 pounds). Vet recommended replacing half her food volume with green beans to help shed the weight, but it made her........ gaseous. So instead he recommended a different food formula from Blue Buffalo, so she'd get her carbs from a different source. They've been on that for a year and a bit now.... which is super awesome, because Blue comes in packages that are about 25% smaller than Science Diet, but cost 30% more. Woohoo!!

Now that Lily has lost the weight, I think I might put them back on Science Diet.

Royal Canaan Canin... it's what the shelter uses, and read good stuff about it, so we went with it.

My dog loves cat food, so it's always a struggle to keep him focused on his own dinner.

I feed Dexter PEDIGREE adult dog food. He seems to dig it.

When I was back in high school or so, my family had a cat that was at least partially if not totally Maine Coon. He had all of the usual characteristics. He was a grey tabby with the big bushy tail, although he wasn't as big as a lot of Maine Coons get. They make a lot of noises, and have very distinctive vocalizations that are halfway between a meow and a purr. He "talked" a lot. He liked water and would flip his water bowl over to play in it. My mother eventually had to put his water bowl inside a bigger dog-sized water bowl so that he couldn't get any leverage on it. Not sure if this is a Maine Coon thing, but he also had a passion for knocking stuff onto the floor. We had to limit him to certain parts of the house in order to avoid the chance of damage. But he was a really nice cat.

The crittery kind. ;)

She's a long-haired tortoiseshell. Torties are almost always female, and often display a personality type known as 'tortitude'.
They tend to be strong-willed, a bit hot-tempered, and they can be very possessive of their human. Other words used to describe torties are fiercely independent, feisty and unpredictable. They’re usually very talkative and make their presence and needs known with anything from a hiss to a meow to a strong purr.

If yinz are looking for Frontline + at a great price for dogs, Walmart is selling 3 doses for 29.99.

Does that stuff work?
I have to give my dog a combined flea + heart worm pill, because southern dogs will eventually get the worms (via mosquitoes) if left untreated.

It definitely works for ticks. If we miss a dose, I'm guaranteed to have to pull a tick off one of mine. They spend a lot of time in our wooded area so it's tough to keep them tick free, but the frontline does kill any tick that happens to latch on.

We have 3 dogs. The oldest is a minpin who is basically furniture at this point. Sleeps on top of the couch all day.

This is Lady Bird. She's our almost 2 year old dane. Sleeps in the most awkward positions ever. Actually not a very big dane. Only about 110 lbs, if that.

This is Joey. One of my employees actually found her wandering the street. Was malnourished, had mites making her eyes all puffy, mange, and valley fever. Now she is all better (except being on valley fever medicine for the next several months). No clue what kind of dog she is, but she's ridiculously smart. Learned sit, paw, lay down, and stay in a combined 20 minutes.

We use Comfortis for our dog, but it's more of a reactionary solution than preventative.
