That post reminded me that I was going to look into volunteering at the humane society. That'll be a 2020 resolution.

I've always wanted to do that but am afraid I'd get attached to one/more of the dogs and want to take them home. I don't have the time or ability to do that unfortunately.

Hi. First time aquarium owner here. I got a 10 gallon tank set up a few days ago and want it to run a week or so before adding fish - so I’ve read. What kind of fish are neat for kids? Thanks

Run it for more than a week without any fish - preferably 15-30 days. Sprinkle some fish flakes in each once daily so that it cycles the tank. That'll give you the best chance at success. As for neat fish for kids, neon tetras are always popular because of their color. Gourami are also very pretty. Stick with community fish. Avoid Mollys, as they're live bearers and you want no part of that.

My dog has cancer. You guys, honestly...I am usually fairly stoic about these things but life is just too much now. In the totality I have almost no capacity to feign normalcy anymore. Just been crying and trying to absorb it, usually I skip that and go right to processing stuff but I am just kind of broken for now.

Blah.

Turned 12 in September. We projected she would live to 12 so it isn't a huge surprise, but she got a perfect bill of health in October so we kind of set that thought aside.

I am so sorry dodint. I've said this before but the thought of my girl getting older almost makes me sick to think about. I literally cannot fathom my current life without her. Best wishes.

Thanks for letting me vent, much appreciated. She's doped up and snoring right now. Hopefully we can get to the specialist soon and see what tne options are. We are not going to selfishly prolong her life by reducing the quality of it, but maybe there are options.

Wonky-faced rescue dog who was attacked as a puppy finally finds loving home

 He’s so adorable (pics in link)

https://www.yahoo.com/news/wonky-faced- ... 26745.html
A rescue dog with a unique face has finally found a loving home after hundreds of people asked to adopt him.

Brodie the German Shepherd Border Collie cross was born in a rescue shelter, but was attacked by his mum when he was only 13 days old.

She bit his head, leaving him with severe cranial and facial injuries - but the resilient pooch survived with a permanently slanted face.
Brodie’s jaw fused together as he grew but one side of his face got stunted, which left him partially blind in one eye.

He had been adopted as a puppy but was returned to the rescue shelter after just five months as the owner complained he was “too hyper”.

So we decided to go with a betta and three pygmy spotted corys. Everything seems ok, but once a week, for like a day or two, the water gets really cloudy then clears up on its own. It’s weird

Assuming you’re running some type of mechanical filter, you should get some activated carbon and add it to your filter area if possible. That’ll help with water clarity for sure.

So. Did the pathology today. Found out she has two distinct cancers growing in different parts of her body. The doc was actually very surprised, they only found the second one by chance. In a way it was helpful because it removed nearly all treatmemt options and took the decision out of our hands. We are going to remove the tumor on her leg, it has swollen to the size of a tennisball and starting to seep blood. She'll then pass away in a few weeks-months, probably when we feel she is ready for in home euthanasia. The hope now is the complications from tomorrows surgery are limited and we can have a good few weeks of nature walks and eating snacks before the time comes. If not for the leg tumor we never would have known she was sick, she is still vibrant and full of energy.

She had a pretty broad and adventurous life, no regrets in that department. :thumb:

Yeah dudes, thanks. This is upsetting but she's had a top shelf life. She's traveled and seen more than a lot of humans. When she got the clean bill of health I allowed myself to think we might move to the country house and have 2-3 strong years. Turns out she probably won't make it to that transition this summer.

When we got her in 2007 at 6 months old I did the breed research (she's a mix) and calculated her life expectancy to be about 12 years. She's now 12.5 months old, so we're in bonus time. Happy to be here.
