My cat figured out the big secret last night that I control the mysterious red dot. She looked what I assume a child looks like when they find out Santa isn't real. After that wore off the elation that she could get the dot to appear anytime by chattering at me was too much.

The little baby has finally started to meow at me for food or whatever, which is unbelievably cute.

Long ago, I realized that's the most likely scenario. My wife wants to sign the adoption paperwork yesterday. The only reason I haven't agreed yet is two fold:

1. Baby on the way. No clue how he's going to handle that. Most likely overthinking it, but I want to wait for that.
2. There's no real rush because no one is really interested in him. For the time being the shelter still handles all medical expenses as well as dog food that they get at cost, so it is fine to just keep him as a foster for right now.

Yeah, dogs and cats are pretty much the best.

Well, my girlfriend and I adopted a dog yesterday. She is just over five years old, and she is a hound mix. She is a gentle soul and seems to love humans and dogs equally. we are picking her up today. cantwait.gif

Due to the (relative) cold, I woke up with 3 cats and a dog on the bed this morning. The mama/baby are figuring things out. ;)

My dog has been acting kind of weird lately. I can't really describe it, but it's like she is skittish around us. She likes to sleep in the basement, and I called her upstairs. She creeped up the stairs which is unlike her, and I had to coax her into the kitchen. After that, she promptly went back in the basement.

Before we left, she went upstairs and back into one of the bedrooms, which is really unlike her. Didn't come down when we were coming in and out of the garage, and just hid up there until after I left.

She just turned six, and is the happiest and most rambunctious goldendoodle I know. This behavior is so unlike her, and I know she isn't guilty about anything because she is about the best behaved dog I've ever had. It is just off-putting to see her behaving so weirdly all of a sudden. Guess I will need monitor it.

I'd probably take her to the vet if that kept up for multiple days.

In the sense that this is the second one I have owned, yes. But dog #1 (the beardog) crossed the rainbow bridge in December

I saw the thread bump and was excited to see it was an adoption and not a death.

That lasted about 15 seconds.

RIP beardog.

1.) Thanks for all the kind words

2.) Anyone have any feedback on commands for hounds? This dog doesn't respond to vocal commands at all. No sit, stay, come, heel, anything. She is very obient though....as in, she looks like she wants to do go outside (tail wagging, excited), but won't get off the couch until I say the magic word. the problem is that I don't know what the magic word is.

3.) Other than that, this dog is sweet as Baja blast mountain dew at tbell

Was this dog actually used for hunting? Hunting dogs are a tool and not a pet, so they are rarely taught commands like that. Have you tried whistling?

She was a adopted; beyond the knowledge that she is 5 years, that she came from norf carolina, and she had puppies sometime in the spring or summer, we know nothing. there is a good chance that she was a hunting dog in her prior life imo. she wants to obey to a certain degree, but there is a communication barrier, too, because it seems like she is waiting for me to do something, but I don't know what it is. when shes at home she basically curls up in a ball and sleeps. when she is on walks, she isn't maniacal about sniffing but she likes to sniff for things.
