We had a similar situation with our GSP around thanksgiving. We elected to do the MRI and a spinal tap. No stroke and spinal fluid was clean. Neurologist vet said it was either a mini-stroke or a vestibular event.

Honey did not seem to be improving from the antibiotics, and the more I handled her, the more I became convinced that she had experienced some sort of neurological event. She wasn't just dizzy. She couldn't drink unless I used a syringe to put water in her mouth, for example, and I don't believe she had any control over her bladder. Early this morning at maybe 3:00 am, it seemed like she started laboring with her breathing and was rasping as he breathed, so I took her back to PVSEC and had her put to sleep. I wasn't going to let her suffer any, and I couldn't be sure any more that she wasn't suffering.

Man, that's tough. The right decision, but a difficult one.

JFC, I hate this thread! So sorry shyster. :(

We need a RIP Pet Thread, so I don’t have to read it.

Thanks for the condolences, everyone. Honey was at least 16, so she had a pretty long life for a kitty that started out feral. For the last two years after I inherited her from my mother, she had her choice of multiple heated beds, all the food she could eat, all the water she could drink, and pets on demand by walking into the human's home office and meowing loudly at him when he isn't doing anything important (like talking on the phone with his boss). She was healthy until this sudden event, and I think she lived the end of her life in some of the best circumstances a cat could ask for.

This was a bad weekend for cats in my family. My brother's cat lost a battle with cancer on Sunday. RIP both Honey and Shadow.

This month, really. The week before my MIL joined us for vacation, her one cat passed away (kidney failure). The week she returned, her last cat passed away (cancer).

Let's change tack a bit...........

In other news, Mrs Tif and I are about to head out to meet a new doggo. 2-yr old Meximutt pittie mix. I'm not too keen on the thought of Mrs Tif trying to handle a 40-pound Staffie in 8 or 10 years time, but this particular girl looks pretty mellow.
