That stinks, Om. You’ve got a good heart for adopting senior pets.

We are starting to wade into senior territory with our one dog. This is the first time we’ve had an older dog. Is it common practice to increase the number of vet visits? More than the usual one per year?

Par for the course, just like with people.

For example: Since we moved back to Los Angeles, our new vet knows us by name already. I think we've been to the regular vet six or seven times, and the vet hospital at least five times. And that's just for the dog. The cat (who is 12) has also been to the hospital twice on her own, and was actually admitted for four days because her kidneys stopped kidneying.

 Geno is 12lbs of terror. Murphy keeps him in line though for the most part.

Geno looks like he's being left out in the exchange.

My parent's golden probably only has a few days left. He hasn't eaten much at all in about a week, and now is starting to have tremors/shakes. He's 9, and had cancer in his legs and snout. The vet offered to do treatment but they couldn't afford it, and it would likely only buy him 6 months. That was about 4 months ago. Dogs are the best and worst.

Yeah. My mom texted this morning asking what she should do. My dad wants to take him Friday to put him down, but I just don't think he'll make it that long :(

That sucks, and it's sad to think about.

I think when the time come for my guy, i'll have to do my best to take solace in the fact that he had a great life and that we gave him lots of love.

My couch buddy all week long at my BIL’s house:

She is a very good girl. Probably the friendliest dog I’ve ever come across. She just wants to cuddle and give kisses.

Today marks year 3 of bringing the most terrified, shut-down dog I've ever met into our house.

Here's a photo of where he started:

There was a rule when he came to the shelter where my wife volunteers that you don't even make eye contact with him. It would freak him out too much.

And here is the goof he's become:

A little love and a lot of patience is all it takes sometimes.
