My tank has reached this mature status where I don’t have to do anything. There are enough live plants that I almost never change water. Fry are surviving into adulthood. My maintenance is basically servicing the sponge filters and canister filter once a month and adding in any water that left during that process. It is literally it’s own little contained balanced ecosystem.

Just got back from the vet. Oh boy was that rough. When I went to pick up the cat this afternoon from my in laws she couldn't walk. It was awful.

This was a very sudden downturn. Vet thinks she had lymphoma..so they suggested to put her to sleep. Said anything we did would maybe get her a month at most and she was in distress.

We got to go in when they did it and say our goodbyes. My wife was a mess. I tried to hold it together for her.

Thankful she isn't in pain anymore and she had a good long life, but still sucks alot.

Pour one out for Maci tonight.

I don’t know if dog pets can translate to cats, but I’ll pet my pups extra for Maci tonight.

@meow: Our horde of rainbowfish (4 different species) know when it’s dinner time. Excuse the potato quality.

Haven't been in the thread for a few weeks. Sorry to hear about your critter, Skully.

And prepare for that period of uselessness to be a bit longer than a week.

Whoa baby. That dwarf gourami is a show stopper. What’s below it with the red tail?

Yeah, that Gourami in particular is absolutely stunning - the photos don’t do his red and neon blue coloring justice. The new one we got looks good, too.

If you’re talking about the smaller fish in the background with a red tail, it’s some sort of tetra; don’t think it’s a bloodfin. If you mean the red striped rainbows, they’re deepwater creek rainbows.

Glass Bloodfin Tetra? It looks like that's an entirely different species (Prionobrama filigera) than the regular Bloodfin Tetra (Aphyocharax anisitsi).

I believe it was labeled a red fin tetra, which sounds obvious enough, so I'm going to roll with that.

I think Shys-daddy is right. The red fin tetra has a taller body structure. Like a skirt tetra

We have some Buenos Aires Tetras in there, too, and a Rubbernose Pleco:

We've had a lot of dwarf plecos over the years, and this is the first one that actually attaches to the glass. The others have always stayed on the gravel and on top of decorations within the tank.

Went to PetSmart for food. Got everything set and realized my wife and daughter were gone. Check out and I see her filling out kitten adoption paperwork.
