Given my 100yd zero and the 7mm Rem Mag 150gr round where was the round relative to my line of sight at 40 yards?

A bullet is still rising above the bore axis at 50 yds, so on a 100 yd zero you'd have to hold low. Point of aim isn't point of impact.

This is interesting. Federal is introducing the new ".30 Super Carry" cartridge. It's basically seems to be a "magnumized" .32 ACP. The idea is more power than .38 ACP in a small-diameter cartridge that can fit more rounds into a magazine. It looks like S&W will be one of the first to release guns in the caliber, with .30 Super versions of the Shield EZ and Shield Plus. The EZ will supposedly carry 10 rounds as opposed to the 8 rounds of the .380 version.



Federal does seem to like the .32 caliber, having also worked with Ruger to develop the .327 Federal Magnum. And it looks like the other ammo companies are on board, with Remington and Speer saying they will produce ammo in the new caliber too.

I don't see this replacing 9mm, but I could see the .30 Super displacing .380 as well as some 9mms in the class of small pocket CCW guns, and that's exactly what this cartridge is aimed at.

I have a question regarding a book I'm writing. I have a character who had a nervous breakdown after a very traumatic event. He voluntarily spent a few weeks at a mental health treatment center and was released after treatment. Would he legally still be allowed to own a handgun? From what I can see online, it looks like you're only barred if you were involuntarily committed/deemed mentally defective.

In my head the book is set in rural PA, but I don't specifically mention it due to the other issues. It could be any of PA, MD, OH, or WV really.

Governor Holcomb of Indiana just signed a constitutional-carry bill into law, joining Ohio and Alabama this year in eliminating the need for a permit to carry a concealed firearm. That brings the US to 24 constitutional-carry states. Bills are also pending in Georgia and Nebraska, so we could be up to at least 26 by the end of this year. The states that now have constitutional carry are: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

After a visit to my local FFL, I'm now the owner of a new S&W 986 Performance Center. Seven rounds of 9mm (using moon clips), each of which I have been informed can blow someone's lungs clean out of their body. The unfluted titanium cylinder is way overkill for the 9mm, but it looks neat.

It's too big/heavy for that, alas. It's on the L-Frame, so it's the same size as the seven-shot 686+, which isn't a small gun. Even regular Smiths are getting up over $800 to $900 or so, depending on the model. Revolvers are expensive.

All of the suits I own are from the Men's Wearhouse. I can afford guns because I don't generally spend money on other stuff.

Surprisingly there has not been a run on rifles here locally. Between March 2020 and as recently as the end of last year, going to the local big box sportsman's store* website and filtering by 'in stock' was lol. But as of today they have around 30 different black rifle models available.



* I think this is more accurate of general tenor than checking dedicated gun stores. Gun stores can be intimidating to first timers, but a store that also sells fishing tackle and tents and cast iron skillets is more inviting.

I'd really like to trade my Ruger SR9 in for a 9mm revolver. Any recommendations on a brand/model? I don't need anything fancy. Just something I can put in the drawer and forget is there 99% of the time.

The guns are even correct.

There aren't too many 9mm revolvers out there. Smith has the 7-shot 986 that I just bought and the 8-shot 929, both of which are Performance Center models that each cost over $1,000. Ruger has a 5-shot 9mm version of the compact LCR revolver, a 5-shot version of the SP101, and an 8-shot "Super GP100" that's out of the Ruger Custom Shop and I think costs even more than the Smiths. I also believe Taurus has the compact 5-shot model 905 and the mid-sized model 692, which offers a pair of 7-shot interchangeable cylinders, one in .357 and one in 9mm.

Thanks for the info! The only reason I was thinking to stay with a 9mm is because I have two or three hundred rounds of ammo. I guess I could sell that if I change.

As for trading rather than keeping, I can't really justify having two hand guns that never get used, but starting blasting does sound appealing.

I think I'd just hang on to the SR9 as a "drawer gun." Ruger generally makes stuff that works even if dirty or neglected. Clean it once a year or so and I'd be confident that it would work when needed.

I've always liked Hornady One Shot as a gun lube. It's a spray that quickly dries to leave a thin "dry lube" layer that doesn't get sticky or tacky or solidify over time like some other lubes can. It's kind of expensive, but the nice thing is that it's basically impossible to "over lubricate" a gun with it. Just hose out the gun with the One Shot and let it dry, and you're good to go.

I haven't bought ammo in a while and never buy .223. Was thinking of getting my Dad some for Father's Day. What's the market like for that these days? Can I expect to walk into a local shop and pick up a few boxes?

I didn't know that the Johnsons that own that store also own the HVAC business. Their bid was super high for our system last year.

Lucky Gunner is offering 1,000 rounds in the $0.50s range per round. Add maybe three or four cents per round for tax and shipping.
