So someone with a Pennsylvania CCW permit can now carry in Ohio during temporary visits. The visitor must comply with Ohio law while carrying in the state.
Any idea what they consider temporary? I'll be in Cleveland for a weekend soon.
Unfortunately, the law doesn't define exactly what temporary means. But I would think that a weekend visit would certainly qualify.

Are there any jurisdictions which issue CCWs that expressly forbid portability?

You mean, states that would say "You can't use our permit to carry in another state even if that state says you can"? Not that I'm aware of. Those states tend to deal with that problem by resisting giving any permits to anyone (see, e.g., New Jersey, New York, Hawaii, etc.)

Yeah, that's what I meant. Not even sure a law like that would be enforceable, don't know why it popped in my head.

If you are going to be skeet and trap shooting for hours at a time get a 20 guage and use the reduce recoil loads, your shoulder will thank you.

I have had no problem finding 20g ammo ever. !6g, that's near impossible. 12g of course is always available. Your basic home defense shotgun shouldn't need to be more than $200. That will get you an 18" pump action with 5-7 shell magazine. I have a Maverick 88 in 12 which is essentially a mexican manufactured parts/assembled in USA Mossberg 500. Also have a real Mossberg 500 in 20.

If you really want to trick it out though go with a Remington 870 and get Magpul stock and forearm.

I have a friend who is a Chicago police officer. We were talking about this the other day, and then it actually made the news, probably because of Uber: http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/Ub ... 29691.html

For the folks that like to ask "When has a CCW holder ever stopped a mass shooting?" There you go, nice little case study that got some national coverage because of a tangential part of the story.

The guy had a concealed carry permit and pulled a shotgun?

And six shots only injured the bad guy? Not sure if I admire the guy's skill at shooting-to-wound or am disturbed at his lack of skill in shooting-to-kill.

In related news, as of July 1, Kansas will be a "constitutional carry" state. No permits necessary for concealed or open carry if 21 or over.

NRA is on the job trying to get the age restriction lowered to 18.

Source of the post The guy had a concealed carry permit and pulled a shotgun?
Splitting hairs on my part, but he was driving a car and I imagine not having it in the open since he was driving for hire. Not sure if he has a CCWP or CCHP. I thought I had a CCW but it actually is a CCH.

My point was more that this stuff does happen, as anti-gun folks tend to say they don't and they're just a gun owners wet dream.

I just looked at some news reports, and some way he had a shotgun and some say he had a handgun. Maybe the driver had something like a Taurus Judge / S&W Governor? That could explain the handgun/shotgun confusion.

The average number of victims in an active shooter incident stopped by police action is between 5 and 7, depending on whose data you look at. The average number of victims in an active shooter incident stopped by an armed citizen, response times being more or less immediate, is under 2. That means, by definition, the latter doesn't even get counted as a 'mass shooting' (FBI definition, 3 or more victims at one general location), and so it's difficult to actually say how many mass shootings are stopped by CCW holders.

(And in case I'm not being clear, I am agreeing with you.)

Since its creation, the PA Gaming Control Board has enforced a gun ban for PA's casinos. That no-guns policy was just repealed because it violates state preemption: http://blog.princelaw.com/2015/04/17/pa ... egulation/

PA casinos are no longer off-limits for legal concealed carry.

He said 10 guns were found at the checkpoint last year, which was double the number in 2013. Nine of the guns uncovered last year were loaded, Howell said.

I found an old single shot Sears 16 gauge shotgun in the back of a closet. I'm assuming it belonged to my dad but he doesn't know anything about it. He hasn't fired a gun in 20+ years. I cleaned it up and although there are some scratches in the stock and pitting in the barrel, it looks to be in okay condition. I'd like to try shooting it but am a little concerned it could blow up or something (I've actually never fired a rifle or shotgun) due to being neglected for God only knows how long. Any way to check and make sure it's safe to shoot? I wouldn't really be using it for anything. Just thought about keeping it in my Jeep when I hit the mountains.

I have some 16ga ammo but no shotgun. hah.

Safe answer is to take it to a gunsmith and ask his recommendation. It's probably okay but you can transfer the risk to him and would only cost you a few dollars, if anything.

Or you could just bring your ammo and test fire it for me if you're still heading to PA. ;)

I could put it in my checked bag.

It's not a lot, just thought it was funny you have the firearm and I have the ammo and neither can use it.

Yeah, I probably do. I cleaned it today and it certainly seems fine. I'll probably still have it check out though. My face isn't great, but I'd rather not lose it. It would be bad for business.

Why? You're behind the camera. ;)

If you want me to have a look and test it, I will. I won't be out there until the 22nd though.
