lol I saw that last night. I feel like you'd get put on a list.
All Things Guns & Ammo
My initial reaction was "Anyone want to start a militia?"
And now *I'm* on a list.

That honestly doesn't sound like an excessive amount if you train on the regular.
All Things Guns & Ammo
Well IIRC police/FBI officials don't even train. That's like enough for 20 people to last a few months at least. That honestly doesn't sound like an excessive amount if you train on the regular.
I have a friend who's in high-level enforcement and they train once a quarter for less than 4 hours a day on the range. I find it mind-blowing.

@Shyster - This isn't enforceable, like at all, right?

Not enforceable, and almost certainly unconstitutional.
§ 6120.
Article I, section 21 of the Pennsylvania State Constitution:
§ 6120.
Limitation on the regulation of firearms and ammunition.
(a) General rule.--No county, municipality or township may in any manner regulate the lawful ownership, possession, transfer or transportation of firearms, ammunition or ammunition components when carried or transported for purposes not prohibited by the laws of this Commonwealth.
Article I, section 21 of the Pennsylvania State Constitution:
The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.

So he's going to propose doing something that he can't do to make it look like he wanted to do something. Stimulating his base but not actually having any effect on anyone. In the form of politicizing the Tree of Life tragedy.
Sounds par for the course.

Not only that, in the article council expects a fight and to be sued, so spend more money to defend it apparently as well. The guy that killed all of those people lived in Baldwin, so it's not like these new laws would prevent much anyways. So he's going to propose doing something that he can't do to make it look like he wanted to do something. There are 9,000 officers in the LAPD; the Department's annual ammo budget is $1.3 million. That's around $145/yr per officer.... and that's pretending all 9,000 badged officers are authorized to carry on duty, which they are not. That's effectively one range day and one day of qualification shooting. Per year.Well IIRC police/FBI officials don't even train. That's like enough for 20 people to last a few months at least. That honestly doesn't sound like an excessive amount if you train on the regular.

So maybe we shouldn't be so surprised when we see stories like cops unleashing 400 rounds at a suspect's car and hitting it (the car) like 12 times.
All Things Guns & Ammo
Oh it's insanity and I was flabbergasted when I found out I shoot more than most police officers at a range. My friend only has to draw from the hip and hit the target 3 times in 5 seconds. Then he has to shoot three times, change his mag and shoot 5 times in 10 seconds or something like that. There are 9,000 officers in the LAPD; the Department's annual ammo budget is $1.3 million. Their range qualifications are borderline novice, imo.

It's pretty clearly unenforceable. Like WK already said, PA law has a preemption statute that forbids municipalities from enacting their own gun laws. In addition, enacting those laws might violate a court order. Pittsburgh previously tried to ban assault weapons back in the 1990s as a "pile on" to the federal AWB, and as part of the settlement in the ensuing lawsuit from Allegheny County Sportsmen's League the City agreed to a consent order under which the City agreed to cease further efforts to enact local gun laws.@Shyster - This isn't enforceable, like at all, right?

So in total............ 15 seconds to make 11 hits and a mag change. This is 'qualification'.Oh it's insanity and I was flabbergasted when I found out I shoot more than most police officers at a range. Didn't have time to ask this before. Did Santa bring any new firearms to any of yinz guys over the recent holiday season?
I didn't buy anything new myself. I decided to pay the medical expenses for my broken ankle out of cash rather than dipping into my health savings account, so that used up my free funds for the last couple months. I'm now waiting to see if anything I'd really like will be revealed at the 2019 SHOT Show, which starts on Monday.

Any of yinz going to the Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg this year? I went last year and had a fine time. Never knew how many excursion outfits there were until I went.
All Things Guns & Ammo
Now that it's legal to hunt yotes with an AR15, I upgraded my 1-4x32 scope to a more Powerful scope with IR (I wanna say 6-36x52 off the top of my head) as well as an Orion H30 predator light. Was hoping for a few inches of snow tonight to try it out.Didn't have time to ask this before. Did Santa bring any new firearms to any of yinz guys over the recent holiday season?

Does anyone know if I can get a PA LTCF from any county, or do I have to get it in my residing county? I live in Fayette, right on the border of Westmoreland, and their sheriff has much more after-hours availability.
All Things Guns & Ammo
PSP sez: "An individual who is 21 years of age or older may apply for a license to carry firearms by submitting a completed Application for a Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms to the sheriff of the county in which they reside."
All Things Guns & Ammo
Under 18 Pa.C.S. § 6190: "If the applicant is a resident of this Commonwealth, he shall make application with the sheriff of the county in which he resides or, if a resident of a city of the first class, with the chief of police of that city."

Knowing that mac is certainly not residing in a city of the first class I omitted that portion.

I was a little disappointed at this year's SHOT show. I saw a gun blogger say that this year's show was evolutionary rather than revolutionary, with most new products merely being extensions of existing product lines (such as Colt now offering a .357 Cobra, more Glock variants, etc). I agree with that. The only new product I find all that interesting is Winchester's new .350 Legend cartridge, which is a .357-caliber straight-wall cartridge based on a blown-out .223 case.
https://thereloadersnetwork.com/2019/01 ... shot-show/
The genesis of this cartridge is supposedly that some Midwestern states limit rifle cartridges for hunting to those with straight walls, which was originally intended to authorize pistol cartridges like .357 Mag, .44 Mag, etc. for hunting. I guess this fits into those states' regulations. It will fit into the AR platform because at least one company—CMMG—has announced an AR chambered in .350 Legend. As a handloader, I''d be much more likely to buy this than, say, a rifle in .300 BLK. If the brass is truly straight, then there should be carbide reloading dies available, and the .357 bullets are going to be cheap and plentiful. One could bang out ammo on a progressive press way easier than loading a bottleneck like .300 BLK.

Getting real close to biting the bullet and getting a suppressor. Want to build a .300 Blackout Pistol

Looks like deer hunting with semi autos and rifle deer season starting the Saturday after Thanksgiving are up for a vote soon at the PGC.
All Things Guns & Ammo
Certainly support semi-autos. I would oppose the Saturday start if that would mean that students no longer get that day off school.
All Things Guns & Ammo
I'm torn on the Saturday thing.
That Sunday is like a rite of passage. Siting in guns, telling hunting stories,... But it would be nice to get a third weekend day of hunting. Much prefer Sunday hunting.
