Yes.

And if it's prohibitively expensive it's not a great range round either.

What size rifle round would you prefer to use at the range? Most all other rifle ammo is like 50 cents per round.

I think 5.56 is ideal for the range but I'd just rather spend the 250 bucks on something else other than 500 rounds

Only guns I shoot at the range are .38, .357, .243 and sometimes 8mm

But it's literally been over 2 years since I went to a range

I think you would have a hard time getting any other rifle cartridge cheaper than 5.56. Looking at the prices at Cabela's, for example, one can get 5.56 in volume for less than $0.50 per round. The best bulk prices for cartridges like .30-06 or .300 Win Mag are up around $1.50 per round, and even .243 Win is over a buck a round. You aren't going to shoot any other rifle cartridge for less.

My bad. All my stuff is 9mm pistol and 22LR, and I haven't bought any 22LR in a long time because I have a bunch.

I wouldn't pay $.50/rd for 5.56. Maybe that's a hidden reason why I'm not a rifle guy. Just a preference.

The most I've paid for a round is $2 each, for .50AE.

I think the spirit of my comment stands, though. If you're standing at the range looking at the target thinking about the cost of the ammo you're probably not going to have the best time possible.

I have about 2k rounds of 556. I have only ever bought when I can get it for 32 cents or less per round.

With Obama out of office and Clinton defeated, I've definitely seen prices coming down and availability going up on a lot of firearm-related stuff. I can now order just about any brand/type of gunpowder I want, primers are plentiful, and even .22 LR is showing up in volume again. I don't think we're going to see the return of pre-Obama prices, however. A lot of people bought a lot of guns in recent years, so I think demand will be higher, and from what I understand the international prices on the requisite metals like lead, copper, and zinc have gone up, so it also costs ammo companies more money to make the ammo.

Seriously 5.56 rounds are on the cheaper end of the spectrum. I prefer to shoot 5.56 instead of 7.62 because of cost at times.

If you're paying $.50/rd for 5.56 you're paying too much. You can get it online for less than $.40rd (shipping included) right now. Just gotta find good deals.

Despite signaling earlier that semi-autos would be usable for a wide variety of game species, the Pennsylvania Game Commission yesterday pulled a U-turn and approved a last-minute amendment to their proposed rules, which authorizes semi-auto rifles only for small game and furbearers and only in .22 caliber. Semi-auto rifles will not be permitted for deer, elk, bear, or turkey. Obviously a disappointing outcome. I hope the PGC gets an earful from hunters and revisits the regulations in the near future.

I'm locked out of my winchester safe. I put the combination in and it gives the audible feedback that it's the wrong combination. I am beyond annoyed.

Pointless. Typical PGC. Just when you think they're doing something good...

Pardon me of I'm suggesting something you already tried, but did you check to see if it's reverted to the default combination?

Yep, I've also tried that with 2 new batteries. I took the battery out now and going to let it sit for a while then try again.

I'd do that if I didn't have about $2k in cash, passports, tax returns, birth certificates, etc etc in it...

I was going to suggest hitting it like Fonzie and the jukebox, but that gif is better.
