The ball is tipped!!
The beginning of the best part of the year is underway. Some good matchups tonight with Sparty-Arizona and Kansas-Indiana at Pearl Harbor. A lot of cupcakes on tap on tonite's menu but there will be a number of those cupcakes who will steal a road victory and party on the bus during the long ride back to campus.
Opening Night Upsets:
--Wagner beats UCONN on the road
--Chattanooga beats Tennessee on the road
--Nicholls beat BC on the road
--Albany beat Penn State on the road

The Pearl Harbor game is always a fun one. I take it they aren't playing the game on the carrier this year? I seem to recall they had to end it at the half. The ball is tipped!!

No games on battleships this year. Too many logistical issues. Last year, they played the Pearl Harbor games on the base. This year, they're playing them at University of Hawaii.

For the first time ever, I care about a player (or anything really) in college basketball...DeAndre Hunter at UVA. Not sure if he's gonna redshirt his freshman year...but he's diesel, from Philly, his older brother works with me and he's been keeping me updated on his proceedings over the last 18 months or so and it's been awesome to follow, so I might actually watch a regular season college basketball game for the first time since I went to a Rutgers men's game about 8 or 9 years ago, and even then, I just went there to eat...

Ah. Pitt with the big 2OT win vs Eastern Michigan.
Heard part of the first half... Tim Nevritt or whatever his name is was calling the game. That was... Unexpected.

EMU is a good MAC school this year. They'll probably win their division. That said, Pitt should beat them by 8-12 points I'd say.

I like Nevrett, but yes that was unexpected. Like any sane person I love Dick Groat, but I was stunned to see that he's only 86. Dude sounds like he's pushing triple digits.
I think the Artis at PG experiment ends by 2017. With him running the show they have zero penetration ability out high.

Yesterday I declared Pitt Basketball dead and turned the game off at halftime, only to see they won this morning. So, hooray? I questioned the Stallings hire but have come to really like the guy through his interviews, but things have really not looked great early on. All of blame getting thrown his way but to me a lot of it is unfair reactionary nonsense. Dixon left this team without a capable point guard and they haven't had a big man since he pissed off Khem Birch and Steven Adams bolted. Things look wonky at this point but necessity has forced a lot of square pegs into round holes. Hopefully things keep improving. Yesterday's come back is a good start.

whatever one think about the stallings hire, I personally can't draw too many conclusions from year one or even two, especially because it seems he may be recruiting at a better level than ACC-era Dixon

The end of game run against Marquette bodes good things in my view. As noted above they have no point guard and no center. Basically playing 5 forwards. I like Stallings, even if I wasn't excited by his hiring.

Looks like they thought this game was over at halftime.

That's a real nice road win by Pitt on the road at the Twerps tonite. The Twerps have been living a charmed life lately (we should have beaten them a couple Sundays ago) and were ripe to get picked off. I didn't see any of the game but that result makes it look like Pitt dominated throughout.
