What they've decided to do design-wise with the kidney grill is a crime against humanity.

Still not as bad as the cow catcher front end on Lexus models.

made a dumb mistake while driving a rental car (a Jeep Wrangler) in Ireland and slightly damaged the front bumper (dent about 4 inches diameter) and some minor scratches near it

I said I’m 100% ok with paying for the repairs but I just looked at the quote, from the auto shop the owner of the Jeep works at, and it’s £1,134 ($1,376 after conversion). I know Jeeps are notoriously expensive to fix but that number seems enormous to me (the bumper and assorted screws are £795 and the labor is £220; With £200 or so of tax and the title is well over 1k)

I’ll pay it if this is an accurate estimate but I just want to get a sense of if this is a reasonable number or if I should push back a little (I said a second quote would help)

It actually looks better with the Euro-style license plate across the front. Without that plate basically to fill the gap—ouch.

Don't you have insurance? That repair estimate seems cheap these days.

I do and my policy covers rental cars from Turo but Idk if that’s worth it since I totaled my Elantra in Feb (I aquaplaned so I was found at fault) and my insurance may go wayyyy up

I don't have much experience, but that doesn't seem out of the realm of reasonable for a bumper replacement these days, especially for what would be a foreign/imported car in Ireland. I doubt they have many Jeeps in the local salvage lots, for example.

It's costing me $1000 to get a couple of six inch long gouges (no parts) repainted on one of our cars. Your repair seems right in-line with that price.

If that were your Jeep in the US, you could have that bumper replaced for $500 and a couple beers. But it's not, so...

My ram 2500 had similar damage to the bumper after I hit a deer and I was quoted $1800 to replace it. I think it's absolutely reasonable. Labor these days is quoted at $80+ an hour.

Damn. I had to replace the entire bumper and driver's side quarter panel on my Elantra about 10 years ago. It was under $1300.

It's nice to see some easing of supply. I wanted to test drive a VW Taos back in the late spring, and in order for me to do so they wanted a refundable $500 deposit because they didn't have any on the lot that weren't sold already. I went yesterday and they had a few on the lot and a few new tiguans too. Test drove them both.

There's something goofy with the taos and the dual clutch automatic transmission. I'll be sitting at a stop and go to accelerate and the car will slowly start going and then ZOOM. Just take off. It was a little freaky at first and I thought I did something wrong. The guy said that's just how the Taos runs. He said it's by far the #1 complaint with it. Once you're moving, the drive is really nice, but that start is a deal breaker.

The Tiguan was really nice and with the crazy demand for hybrids at the moment, I might just settle on a Tiguan. We'll go electrified for our next vehicle.

The sales manager came in toward the end of my visit and I commented on the availability. He said it's definitely easing a lot on them. He said he sold about 10 tiguans in March, and it was only because that's all they had. They sold about 30 in July.

VW GTI drivers have been complaining about this transmission for over 10 years and I guess they still haven't fixed it.

Does it have the DSG transmission in it?

My 2011 Jetta TDI had that and it was an extremely complex transmission. I ended up having to replace a flywheel in it for about $1100. However my god that was the smoothest shifting transmission I've ever owned.

I hit a deer and had a new bumper put on along with a whole bunch of other ****. Shocked they didn't total it. Anyway, the bumper line item is $1,155 plus 4.1 hours of assembly and 3.0 hours of paint. So that doesn't seem crazy

If my catalytic converter gets stolen, is that covered by car insurance? I am concerned now that we are parking outside now.

Wouldn't that be covered under comprehensive coverage? Still think you'd need to pay out of pocket up to your deductible, though.

Um what? That's just not true at all. Bumpers cost like $400-500 all steel versions, and it takes like an hour to replace. Just unbolt and re-bolt.

lol they should go to the junkyard and just buy one. Probably $75 bucks. Hell, I have that bumper sitting in my garage from the aftermarket one I put on.

That's an insane quote - but they have you by the balls because you're foreign lol. You can find JL OEM reman bumpers for like $200. That's a rip-off quote.
