Perhaps if this were some startup auto manufacturer I could see that being the case, but Toyota? Come on, be serious. It sounds like had Tesla made the announcement, you'd be all over it.

Perhaps they've cured cancer as well?

Maybe Toyota is working with or bought QuantumScape who announced something very similar last week.

I’ve seen these announcements over and over. They’re vapor ware until otherwise executed. The solid state battery is a little like coldfusion. Complete game changer across multiple industries. I believe a small scale prototype might be possible. But I genuinely believe that this is just a signal to tell investors that they’re still in the game and are aiming high but don’t have anything concrete.

I’ll own my fanboyism, but if Tesla made this announcement, my inclination to believe them is based on actually pulling off a line of competitive EVs already...and based on their market position, these announcements wouldn’t have a stink of desperation to them.

Trying to find used weather tech mats for my new truck. Someone on ebay has a set for 99 bucks. Plus 49.25 shipping lol. When I messaged her and said I am a buyer at 99 and free shipping she acted like I was being unreasonable. Lady, I can get a brand new set shipped to my door for $135

looking at the discussion here reminds me that I haven't fired up the miata in probably 3-4 months. Just threw a new battery in it over the summer too.
Battery in my Miata is 8 years old. Still works fine but I should probably replace it......SOON!
Update: it's dead. Didn't even click. I deserve it though for not disconnecting the battery.

I may end up selling this car once spring comes around. I bought it as my work car since people were dinging my Outback. Then it ended up becoming my around town car for the summer since I wasn't sure if I'd take it on any long trips. That's not out of fear of it breaking down. It's more because there's not a whole lot of room inside and it's not all that comfortable. I can get a set of clubs in the trunk with some creativity, like angling the bag and then putting the driver and 3 in separately.
But even after driving it around town for 1.5 years, I only put maybe 1200 miles on it. I'd be lying if I didn't say garage space didn't have something to do with it. Dead ass Miata sitting inside the garage while I have to spend 10 minutes scraping ice and clearing snow off my roof.

I was just looking at batteries this morning, for the MINI. I realized it's 7+ years old and probably could use a change.

Have these things been this expensive for a while? Top of the line store brand (Duralast) are $200? Optima are $300. And that's for a very physically small battery. I have a Valucraft in my utility van which is working great, but I generally buy the better stuff for the MINI and BMWs.

Probably not related, but my wife was driving during the snow and must've picked up some ice/snow/dirt in one of the ABS wheel sensors. She went to leave for work and the dash lit up like a Christmas tree, then everything went out and left the CEL on. She dragged me out of bed before sunrise to look at it. Put a code reader on it and it told me about the ABS. CEL should clear up on its own unless the sensor has a bonafide failure.

Yes, they skyrocketed a few years ago. It's absurd. I'll be in the market, as well.

**** me, I just checked Acura, and my batter is under $110 new. I have been paying so much more than that for a god damn AutoZone battery.

Does that include an entire wiring harness for the car, too? That's insane.

Tangentially I was looking and the negative battery cable for the MINI has its own electronics attached to it as part of the assembly. :face:

If there were a way to overengineer something the Germans will have found it.

BMW makes Mini, correct? I mentioned this last summer, but looking into a thermostat replacement on my dad's 535 makes me question what the **** they were thinking when they designed it.

Yeah, designed by Germans and built by the English. WCGW?

That said, it's only been in the shop once in our ownership for a failure. Fuel injectors crapped out around 60k miles. We bought it in 2016 (2013 car) when it has 48k on it and now we have 102k on it. Mechanically it's been great. Other than a phantom generic 'bulb out' warning that has been persistent through our ownership it's been trouble free.

We need to decide if we're going to keep it. If we do, it'll get this new battery and a suspension refresh this year. If not it'll get traded on a Porsche Cayman or Macan lease, most likely.

He loves BMW. With exception to that one dealer in VA - where the GM apparently got reamed out over his issues - they bend over backwards whenever he has had an issue.

My wife and I loved BMW, but they've lost their way in the last 10 years. And MINI is following. You shouldn't have massive, lifted, four-door MINIs. Which is why we're looking at Porsche for her.

There is a reason my newest car is a 2008. I just do not like anything that's being put out right now, by anyone. Everything is so uninspired.

My TL-S is an 07. I still think the chances are slim that I pick up the 21 Type-S, but I absolutely see where you're coming from. This is the first car in a while - for me - that I'm genuinely excited by. I miss owning a turbocharged car.

Got $850 for my accord. Not bad. Will buy a tonneau cover and weathertech mats for my new ride.

Fancy.

Never understood the tonneau cover. But then most pickup users never use their beds to haul anything they couldn't take in a car, so its honest if nothing else.

If it didn't seemingly rain 80% of the time in SWPA I wouldn't bother. But that's more of what I think id use it for.

I was able to score a rear seat weathertech for 20 bucks on fb marketplace but the guy didn't have fronts.

Shameless plug: friend of ours owns Diamondback. Check them out if your looking for a truck cover.

They started the company from a project in college. I don’t even think they finished their degrees, just went straight into business.

It'd probably be 15 to 20 if they didn't take back roads all the time

OK are they the yeti coolers of tonneau covers? Lol... I feel like I'd need financing for one of them
