Was looking at trucks yesterday, dreaming of being like mac in a few years. Looks like I'll be kicking that can down the road a few more years. I could put a down payment on a mansion with the cost of these things.

I do not, that was just my phone turned sideways. I am getting one soon, though. I'd check r/dashcam, they have monthly updated recommendations. A lot of people really like Viofo A129s right now.I don't have a dash cam, but @Kane apparently does. Also, if you browse r/IdiotsInCars, you can get a good idea of the dash cam quality in a lot of the videos posted.

I got so fortunate to get my 2500 in November of 2020. I could sell it for probably $8-10k more now than what I paid for it. I hope the truck lasts me until my son starts to drive. Was looking at trucks yesterday, dreaming of being like mac in a few years. Looks like I'll be kicking that can down the road a few more years. We won't be in the market for another 2-3 years, so I'm hoping the dust settles a bit by then. Already starting to put money into a fund so that I'm not financing, or at least financing a very small portion of it. Still, unless the prices actually go down in 2-3 years (how likely is that?), it's going to be a big chunk of change.I got so fortunate to get my 2500 in November of 2020. Finally took delivery of my hybrid Ford Maverick last week. Such a fun little truck, and just what I needed. My hockey stick fits in the bed perfectly

I have a diesel vehicle on my RADAR. I can't make the numbers make sense. In olden times diesel was right around the cost of regular (I fact-checked this to see if I was remembering correctly). And diesel vehicles usually got better mpg, so they made sense right away. I'm looking at a platform that gets 27mph with diesel and 21mpg with gas. It takes premium gas. So the difference is probably the $4.75 gas v. $6.00 (26.3% increase) diesel per gallon. But you're only getting 28.5% better fuel efficiency.Diesel creeping up on $6 a gallon. Gonna be a wonderful camping season going twice. Ugh
And then on top of that, you layer in the small but notable challenges of diesel life. Different maintenance, narrower operating windows as it relates to climate, fewer options at the pump, etc.
I'm just not sure the juice is worth the squeeze. At least for the platform I'm looking at where the bump in efficiency is so narrow.

I feel you. A gas 3/4 Ton truck isn't much better than a diesel spec-wise these days. They get a decent bump in longevity and much better torque numbers albeit the same capacities. That said a diesel vs gas truck, same year and features, in 10 years the diesel is worth 2x as much. I never plan on selling but it's nice to have that if you need it.

I told my brother to check out the maverick. He opted for a Colorado instead. His Elantra was totaled and he couldn't wait more than a month for a car, so had to hurry up.Finally took delivery of my hybrid Ford Maverick last week. A race car friend of mine is an exceptional mechanic and knows everything about VWs. I sent him a Jetta Sportwagen to look over. He replied that he's selling his Saab 9-3 Sportcombi for a really good price if I'm interested. It's in phenomenal shape, has about 100k miles, black exterior over white interior, correct transmission, and heated seats. Aside from not being AWD it ticks just about every box. Feels pretty good after having those others slip away.
It's not as sharp looking as the 9-5 wagon I was looking at but it's six years newer, 54k less miles, and mechanically pure. Going to go check it out on Friday to confirm everything.

My FIL had a 9-3 I believe, sedan. Man that car would scoot. 6 speed too. Fun to drive. Borrowed it a few times while mine was in the shop. Coming down the turnpike between harmarville and Monroeville and I look down and doing like 105. Woops

If I bought another car, I think AWD would be a requirement. That said, I have a hard time even justifying that now.

Just added complexity for my use case. It does make my wife feel better. She wants a Cayman but only if she can get it in AWD.

So my nearly 2-year-old Pilot has 28K miles on it, and will probably need $800-1000 worth of tires soon-ish. It's currently worth more than we paid for it, so it might be worth trading it in on a new one. Seems the local dealership has plenty o' stock of Pilots.
My only hesitation would be the property tax bill (yes, we pay property taxes annually for vehicles down here). Those are generated at the county level, so we're going to get hit with a prorated tax when we change addresses on both ends. Then a huge tax bill 3 months later for the new car.
But if I'm doing the math right, it would lower my payment by over $100. For a better trim, too.

I'm not a fan of the new squinty eyed (I guess they are LED) headlights that most manufacturers are going to these days.

It depends on the dealership. When we bought our 22 Accord in November, the dealership tacked on a $2500 market adjustment. I'm sure it's about the same now - although it's really hard getting prices out of dealerships without going through sales departments. We had dealerships calling us weeks after we bought the new Accord. Really annoying.

The Honda dealers around here are marking up all vehicles an average of $5k.

Is there a loophole where you could not own a car for a month or so and have no tax bill?So my nearly 2-year-old Pilot has 28K miles on it, and will probably need $800-1000 worth of tires soon-ish. Have an Explorer for a rental this week. Long term it's a possible replacement for Mrs. F's Flex which she still plans to drive into the ground, but it's 5 years old with 71k so who knows?
Nice vehicle except two things:
- The engine sounds and feels like it belongs in a Corolla. 2.3L turbo four, apparently. Sort of surprised they are putting a four cylinder in a vehicle this size but I'm not an expert. All I know is I prefer the six in the Flex, even without the turbo.
- When you put it in reverse, it sits in neutral for a couple seconds until it goes in gear. Not a real problem but one of those things that's like- you put it in gear, it should be instantaneous.

I thought about trading in my Crosstrek as it had 26k on it and needed new tires but no local inventory at all right now....at least what I wanted.
Decided to just buy new tires and will hold on to it for another few years.
